Everyone has their own list of things to do during downtime to avoid boredom. I've added a new one to my list. I am now a Case knife collector. During my downtime I'll check out estate sales, antique shops etc. and if I'm in the right spots on the right weekends hit some of the knife shows. The knives remind me of my Grandpa and his farm and a few decades from now should be valuable to my grandson.

That's a really good idea, if he's old enough maybe you could get him involved in helping you find places to buy or finding knives online. It will help him get interested in it and give him some great memories of you.

He's only 1 so he can't enjoy them yet but in time he will I presume. His dad likes knives and stuff also so he'll have positive reinforcement at home too.

Well it will be something all 3 of you can do. I've been thinking about stopping at the Zippo/Case Visitor's Center in PA, but things never worked out.

Leo most carriers say No weapons in your truck. So are you going to Mail the Knifes home or keep them in the truck?

I don't know of any carrier (or US or Canadian border guards, for that matter) who define a pocket knife as being a weapon. Most carriers prohibit firearms, but not a blanket prohibition on anything that can be classified as a "weapon". If that were the case, ballpoint pens, keys, flashlights, ratchet straps, load bars, and nearly everything else in the truck could qualify - if used as a weapon.

I have a couple of folding utility knives in the back for cutting cargo wrap and banding, a 6" kitchen utility knife, and a nifty Swiss Army Knife on my keyring.

Collecting Case knives is very tempting, but very expensive if you're not careful. My knife collection is primarily that of nearly every knife in the Wusthof Classic catalog, which is very expensive no matter how careful you are.

I got to go to the visitor's center / museum over the weekend and Monday morning I got to tour the Case factory. It was COOL.

Hmmmm I am looking at 7 different knives in the van right now..including a nice JA Henckel Chefs knife, a 7" straight blade Buck knife in the sheath, a really nice Warren thomas custom folding ""comma" knife, 2 Schrade single blade folding knives, one with a 1.5 in blade and one with a 4 in blade and 2 steak knifes with 5 in blades..

And i had 3 of them sharpened at the "J" in Knoxville knife shop a few weeks ago...
