Dot inspection & eobr

While on a HAZMAT load this Friday, we pulled into a South Carolina weigh station and was promptly ordered to pull over for an inspection (we have the 2010 inspection sticker in plain view on the passenger windshield). As is my routine, after pulling over, turning on all lights and flashers, I exited the truck with my binders and logs and began to open the hood when the officer came up to me and said "no need, I see you already have a sticker, I am just going to do a level 2" and then he proceeded to enter my cab asking for my EOBR. I have never had a DOT Officer enter my truck like this before. When I advised him we were not converted yet, he stepped out.

What an eye opener! If you are on the EOBR have you ever had this happen to you? No wiggle room.... Your times better be to the moment, no slide on that 14 minutes at all.

In my case, my logs were good and the Officer declined to perform a level 1 even after I offered him $20. He just chuckled and said no-one has ever offered him $s to perform any inspection. I told him our carrier pays us $50 for every clean level 1 and I would still be $30 ahead. He grinned and said no level 1 today.

After he checked cargo securement, we waited another 10 min for the required administrative work and we were on our way with our level 2.

okay, may be a stupid question or one I should know, since I drive a straight truck, but what is an EOBR?

I have not heard of an officer getting up in a cab. All of the EOBR's I have seen can be shown to the officer while he is outside the cab.

I have not heard of an officer getting up in a cab. .
had one getting into my sleeper a few years back .
he explained to me every single item he was looking at ,as well as my rights for privacy when it comes to personal belonging .
he was looking for items like clear view from the driver seat, seat belts ,dash lights ,air leaks ,mattress fire resistance ,and size ,as well as objects that can be flying incase of an accident, Ext.
he then exit the cab ,and we continue the inspection outside.
a level one in Old Usa.

When we first bought our truck while heading home, (with paper tag/plate) we were pulled over and had our sleeper inspected....during such time the officer asked if he could look in the refrigerator which we allowed. Later he apologized and said they have been having problems with drug runners in similar trucks. This was on I-75 Florida Southbound. When the officer on my OP came to the truck, I was already outside preparing to open the hood...my driver's door was already open...guess that was the invite.

Wonder if he would have still done that if you had a co-driver in the bunk?

Just tell them you wife sleeps naked, they won't get in then
EBOR,every truck from a van to a tractor has one,its in the electronic computer that operates your engine
They just plug in to the OBD port, will tell them more than you want them to know
