While on a HAZMAT load this Friday, we pulled into a South Carolina weigh station and was promptly ordered to pull over for an inspection (we have the 2010 inspection sticker in plain view on the passenger windshield). As is my routine, after pulling over, turning on all lights and flashers, I exited the truck with my binders and logs and began to open the hood when the officer came up to me and said "no need, I see you already have a sticker, I am just going to do a level 2" and then he proceeded to enter my cab asking for my EOBR. I have never had a DOT Officer enter my truck like this before. When I advised him we were not converted yet, he stepped out.
What an eye opener! If you are on the EOBR have you ever had this happen to you? No wiggle room.... Your times better be to the moment, no slide on that 14 minutes at all.
In my case, my logs were good and the Officer declined to perform a level 1 even after I offered him $20. He just chuckled and said no-one has ever offered him $s to perform any inspection. I told him our carrier pays us $50 for every clean level 1 and I would still be $30 ahead. He grinned and said no level 1 today.
After he checked cargo securement, we waited another 10 min for the required administrative work and we were on our way with our level 2.
