done with FedEx Custom Critical

They were undermining us with the "flat rate program" and "outside carriers" like FedEx Freight. They mandated the use of EOBRs on all trucks. They are requiring contractors to sign on with the EPA's SmartWay. That means mandatory speed limiters are coming soon. I'm DONE!

First post drive-by.......

I started with them in the fall of 09. I don't think any of what I mentioned was going on at that point. I was new to OTR and expediting. Things got ugly in a hurry.

We have been with FDCC for 6 years. Speedlimters were mandated for White Glove to service ON and QC when those two Canadian provinces passed their laws. EOBR's will soon be a federal mandate. I have yet to receive a mandate to join SmartWay.

EOBRs are NOT a mandate yet and won't be if OOIDA can win in court. All contractors have been asked to sign on with SmartWay. True, I don't know if it's actually required at this point but I'd bet that it will be at some point.

I know that EOBR's are not yet a mandate but it is coming and I doubt that OOIDA can win this one. Don't forget that YOU and I are going to not only paying our EOBR's but for Mexican trucks to have them as well.

As to SmartWay, don't be surprised if that becomes a government mandate too. We are losing control and freedoms are gone.

I'm not giving up on OOIDA, I'm a member and I strongly support what they are doing. There's a little thing called the 4TH AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION that they have on their side. The big trucking companies are in on all this EOBR BS. If the Mexican trucking program goes through that will be the end of the American truck driver. High Speed Rail is really trying to rip business out of our hands too!

There are plenty of trucking companies that are not rushing to shackle everyone with EOBRs.

High speed rail is passenger service. There will NOT be any large scale laying of high speed track. High speed trains cannot run on normal track. There is a LOT of freight moving on rail again, most of the freight that we haul with FDCC cannot be put on rail.

There are trucking companies for now that are not requiring the EOBR. The number is going to get smaller all the time.

I hope you are right about OOIDA winning but I really doubt it. Good luck with whatever you do. IF I ever leave FDCC it will most likely mean that I leave trucking. It is may personal belief that all of these companies are going to get in lock step with the government. When they are told to jump, they will.

Shouldn't we support the companies that don't march in lock step with the government? That was part of my original point.

You're not saying FXCC is the only place to make money are you? Like I indicated on the original post, revenue is going to be headed south in that company, on average, you can always point to exceptions. I've talked with several O/Os that have been with the company since before FedEx took over. They say "it's been all down hill" since then.

No, I am NOT saying that FDCC is the ONLY place to make money. I have talked with two other companies so far and neither can equal what I am making right now. IF I were to find a better answer I would leave. Just have not found it yet. As always, being in business for myself I am ALWAYS exploring options.

Good luck. Sounds like we are on the same page when it comes to freedom in this country. I find too many Truckers walk around like sheep thinking there is nothing they can do to change the special interest cesspool that politics in the transportation industry has become. Please, speak up, stand up, we have to make noise and a lot of it if us small "mom and pop" O/O businesses are to survive.

LOL!!! One thing that I have NEVER been accused of in NOT speaking up.

FDCC has it's business, I have mine. Right now, we are able to benefit our business by staying with theirs. I know that we are nothing to them, won't be most any other way I go, at least for now. IF it becomes more profitable for me to move, I will.

A pretty informative thread, really. It's probably a good thing the only qualifications to be a mod here isn't whether or not they've slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
