its one number that sits on top of a line and another number sits underneath the same line, here is the notation of such a fraction 1/2, lol. I had to find a pic myself, lol.:D so now what do we do with it.

Wow, my calculator can't do those;) Roman Numerals are tough on the calculator too:eek:
Must be something our really old ancestors in the 1950's used

One question to ask " how long can I stay on unemployment benefits" that will answer a lot of questions, why work when you get benefits and also work side job for cash. At 77 I still like to work, it keeps me young.

Welfare, extended unemployment, are a part of the problem for sure.

It was like when Michigan passed a law limiting people to only
FOUR YEARS of welfare instead of lifetime welfare. The "excuse makers" came out in force how "harmful" this was going to be for people and how somehow people are "entitled" to lifelong welfare under the U.S. Constitution.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Everything goes in cycles. There have ALWAYS been bums, lazy people and panhandlers. We now encourage and subsidize that behavior and punish those who DO work hard and get ahead.

There is an advert on the TV at the moment which I think is very apt ..... I think the advert is actually for a car.

The opening shots are in a grey dreary mode - a girl sits at her laptop on facebook complaining about her parents "not having a real life" so she got them to join Facebook and now they have a whopping 19 friends ...... "now this is living" she says

Yeah. I saw that recently. Folks were out with the suv living life while the daughter stayed home and surfed. Had a son like that. Would not leave the computer. He has ended up in San Diego doing elec tech repairs onmthe uss pearl harbor. Sihip is dry docked dfor another 6-8 weeks before trials begin.

Hmmmmm....the quote function on the android app isn't working.

About rates only Bill Gates could afford, I'm guessing the same is said about us when customers hear what it's going to cost to move their freight.

"Wait, you want me to pay you $1.40 for every mile between here and California?"

I drove a cab for a while. One guy called me a lot to take him just around the neighborhood. I'd have to travel from where I was to his house to get him, and he'd only take a short trip that would total about $3.40 or something, and the meter started at $2!

One day he had me take him to Walmart and wait while he ran in. He was in there about 45 minutes or so. When he came out, waiting time had accrued to $16, aside from the fare. He was livid. But he didn't understand that, considering the cab lease and fuel, the hourly waiting time was our BREAK EVEN point.

So whatever the lawn and plow people wanted, they might not be making the killing it sounds like.

Quote feature still not working...

As much as I hate the idea of people on the dole/unemployment when they could be working (heck, I hate the idea that "the dole" exists at all), it's the only reason we don't have bread and soup lines and tramps wandering the country with no place to go.

On my computer, I have an image of a sign posted at the city limits. It says, "Jobless men: keep going. We can't even take care of our own."

Only lengthy unemployment "benefits" stand between us and that kind of thing today. In fact, we'd have had bread and soup lines and whole families of homeless tramps years ago if it weren't for unemployment benefits.

IF it is SO bad can some one please explain to me what there are SO many fleet owners that have trouble finding GOOD drivers/teams and have so many legal problems with those that they do find?

You really want to know?

It is because this industry, not this niche but the entire industry allows entry into it with so much ease and little real qualifications it really is the foundation for the industry to have nothing but people who are marginal and in many cases very substandard.

Getting a license is nothing, pass a written test then the road test and boom - a license to drive a truck.

In this niche, we make it easy for people to get into it. Promoting all of this by telling people try it out first to see if they like it is a determent to all of us because if there is no real commitment, then there is no real effort to be as good as one could be. Like my point with vans, no company should have a van fleet owner in their company but only O/Os who make a commitment to the business.

If an owner wants to have a good team to drive for them, then put some effort in insisting of a level of professionalism to qualify for an entry into the fleet.

How many owners will accept people with little or no skills in driving a truck?

I bet an awful lot of them because they don't give a crap about anything other than turning a buck.

how much does it cost to drive 50 miles one way to work every day . then how much would you need to make a hour to just pay your bills .
oh thats right you should of got a house closer to your work . or sell the house that has been in your family for 200 years so you can be closer to your work .

just like you you need to get so much per mile to take a load . and you watch the DH too. so only you are aloud to do that but nobody else is .

and you can be away from your family and house for long period of times so everybody else should too . you dont like doing stuff so nobody else should be able to do it either .

and you means anybody

Why is it that there are so many BAD fleet owners that rip off the few good drivers/teams out there?

You would think that IF things are SO bad that people would be willing to do any legal work that had the potential to pay well these days and that fleet owners would be going out of their way to be honest to maximize their profits.

Very simple, money. Bad owners realize its more profitable to rip off drivers and find a new person to rip off instead of playing fair and find good drivers. Also finding enough good drivers is expensive and hard to do. You have to go through 3 bad drivers to find 1 good one. So the bad owners realize they are going to go through 4 drivers, why not just make money by ripping off all 4.
