Been awhile for updates. Anyone following my problems with flex plates some interesting things. At about 94000 I started getting noise coming from the transmission. They replaced a final drive, bearings and a gear inside. Not all at the same time, replace one part drive it still there replace another drive it still there finally said the transmission was full of metal and needs to be replaced. Repair has to be 70% of the cost of new to replace. They put in a re-manufactured transmission that came with another 100,000 mile warranty. (thumbs up). Drove it 10 miles had a noise when taking off. Called the rep he said drive it a couple days if it's still doing it take it back. Had a run from Syracuse to Rhode Island. Dead headed back didn't think I was going to make it the noise was so loud. Fast forward dealer called all fixed again. The flex plate broke and a bolt was rubbing on something (block). I'm thinking they didn't torque the bolts right (AGAIN) and the new converter came lose on the flex plate. My concern now is what was that bolt rubbing on? Had to be the block. He said it had debris in the cover for the flex plate. I asked what he meant by that he didn't have an answer. So I'm going to send a scope up behind the flex plate and see if my block is chewed up. 3 flex plates one torque converter (with second plate), one transmission with converter, one radiator and one coil. I think the first flex plate was a defect as I've seen some others with the same issue. (couple). The second one going on the what the dealer said was a bad repair. The transmission I have no idea what caused that I don't run heavy and I'm not heavy footed. The last flex plate sounds like another bad repair. The dealers are costing me more than the manufacture. FYI if you have a transmission replaced take the reman. A rebuilt comes with a 30,000 mile, a new one comes with 60,000 mile and the reman comes with a 100,000. And they did NOT tell me that in advance.
