Dod loads

Hi, I would like it if someone could enlighten me about DOD LOADS. Are they available a lot or just now and then. In other words is it worth getting this DOD Clearance ( I have it -full clearance-but have not put it to work yet). I know about the headaches of doing these loads and lenghty application and qualification process so please skip that part.

I would say it really depends on the company you are leased to and how hard they pursue DoD loads. Having every qualification you can have only helps your bottom line and gives you many more choices for loads.

The more qualifications you have the better. The D.O.D is a no brainer. VERY low cost and good return on your investment. You will NEED a liftgate. What carrier are you with? Do they handle a lot of D.O.D. freight? Are you a team? That is a must. Good luck out there!!

Thanks all for your advice...I am with FEDEXCC 2 yrs now in DR-Unit looking to get back on road in a week or so will possibly post here for new DOD co-driver ....my current co-driver is unable to get back on road. Good luck to all!!

Joe why do you need a lift gate for DoD loads?

baronsan01 I would sure take the time to fill out the paperwork and get one more qualification for loads.

We do DOD loads and there hasn't been one time we ever needed a liftgate.
Might need them if doing huricanne relief, but even then they aren't really needed. If just hauling water or something, just use a pallet puller.

A liftgate is an asset just like any other piece of equipment or driver qualification is. If you have a liftgate on your truck, you will be offered liftgate loads. Some liftgate loads also require additonal credentials or equipment like a reefer+liftgate load, HAZMAT+liftgate load, or government freight that requires a liftgate. As others have said, the more freight you are eligible to haul, the better.
