Do you Roku?

I've never tried any of the tv boxes before and broke down and bought the new Roku 3 a few months back. I love it! I cut the cable and don't miss Dish at all.

But understand that I don't watch what passes for news on tv and I don't watch much sports and I usually find out what the new must-watch show on tv is 'round about season 3 so it works out perfectly. I just finished the first 2 seasons of Suits (is there a 3rd?) and I'll spend the next month or 2 watching something else.

I wonder how it would work on the road.

We have Apple TV , a Roku 3, and Google Chromecast at home. They all work great. No YouTube is the only negative with the Roku. We cut the cable cord 2 yrs ago.

We use an antenna and get 5 local stations which is plenty. I also subscribe to Netflix and Hulu for movies and TV shows that are on cable.

I was wondering about those boxes. What channels do you get with one of those things? Or is it totally different from regular tv? I really haven't found any good info on it.

I would say it's totally different. Do you have Amazon Prime or Netflix? Roku is nothing more than a slick interface to those services and many more (like Hulu).

I don't pay anything for content. Most of what I watch I get from Amazon. It's a spread out and hard to explain medium. I think it's worth the money but you probably shouldn't cut the cord until you see if it's enough for you.

I pay something like ten bucks a month for Netflix. Lots of movies, and TV shows. The TV shows might be a season or two old but compared to cable its cheaper and I can watch the movie or program when I want to.

there are a few free channels as well. My question is can I travel with it?

Huge fan of Roku. 'Cept there is no YouTube.

That's what I thought too. But I just found a way.

Solved: Youtube on Roku (Updated 8/8/2013) | The Beer's on COMCAST!

I did the Plex instructions at the bottom of the article and it works beautifully. I already had Plex installed (mostly for the Daily Show) but also for vids I keep on my desktop computer. All I had to do was install the YouTube plugin.

I'm more than a little stoked. Youtube on the big gun without the hassle of an hdmi cable from laptop to tv and hope the intel graphics app behaves itself for a change. Woohoo! I'll youtube one of the best boxing matches ever, savor a few cold ones, nosh on a french bread pizza. I wouldn't lie to ya, I'm anticipating feeling like I almost have a life! lol

Yes as long as you have internet connection. Just log in like any web site. A word of caution, if you are on a 5GB or otherwise limited amount, you can go through it in a hurry.
