Do You or Do You Not Use The Power Deck System?

Now that i think about it, i delivered to a "chemical plant" in Indianapolis, In across the street from the "Speedway" that wouldn't let me use the chain and hook...i had an old "come along" and i used that to drag the skid to the back of the van...i don't think i even have that thing in the van anymore....hmmmm...that small winch idea is looking pretty good...

I am thinkin some kind of bracket to slip bolts into somewhere around the back bumper...and either battery powered or quick connect off rear lighting...attach it really quick and detach just as quick and toss it in the back....

A 12 volt winch is going to need some bigger cables to the back to run it. Big cables with big fuses!

The eletrical part isn't a concern for me, and yes you are right, the cables and connectors and fuses need to beable to handle heavy amp draws..whats rattling around in my head is a "quick release mount" that would be needed for my "particular" setup...bumper mount is too low without a "pulley or cable guide" to carry the cable up and over the back edge of the door opening...I have an idea or 2...just need to put them in motions...LOL....

Geo (George McDonald) has or had his sprinter set up with roller floor things that should be reviewed here. If someone here can deal with search on this site you might be able to pull it up.

Or better yet maybe he will give us an update'

Wouldn't a Burro be cheaper?????...lol...No, but seriously, Chris has an excellent idea, and I do agree with westmincher, the ROI wouldn't be worth it.

Oh so we keep missing load ops because of no straps allowed... That is like saying a pallet jack is no return on ROI

it is kinda related....dock level only at GM...Why? was it a safety issue?....do we know? did they have an accident using straps?....

Ford has always stated dock level in the notes. Lots of places do. I rarely went to GM but pretty sure vans still do.

I am just saying...IF vans were cut off because of straps...if some vans were equipped with a winch system and the fork lift operator didn't have to mess with straps....MAYBE John could go to GM or Ford and say Hey...the vans we are going to send in have this system so straps are not used....maybe you or anyone could get back in....

ROI on a 3000 lb winch and setup?? A decent 3000 lb winch might top out at $125 bucks...yea the wiring and the fuses and connectors will cost you, but youd have less then $500 in the total deal...

I was going to say something about ROI....but it seemed trivial....LOL

Like I said, I don't know that we're out, I still go to Ford all the time.

I think it might be one of the most unnecessary things in this business.

Alot of people would say having my van setup as it isnt really necessary too...but i wouldnt be out here doin this if i couldnt set it up as it is....

Is a winch "necessary"? Not in most situation right now, but there are a few times it could have got me loaded..and there have been a few times that i warned no straps or chains again...so while i wont "run" out and set it up this weekend, but sooner or later ill do something...
