Awhile back I saw an ad online for panther dispatchers paying $10.00 an hour is that all they get or do they get bonuses for booking loads

o/o till i die

it wouldnt be bad money if you was a colledge kid but I find people work harder if they get a percentage of each run.

I think that is rather underpaid. I would think $12 starting without experience is more like it.

Dispatchers only start out at $8.00 to 10.00 and hour. They don't get paid a bonus for getting loads covered. If that was the case my wife would still be a dispatcher.

She started out at $20,000.00 per year and after 5 years she was only making $24,000.00. That's not alot of money

Where I worked our dispatchers started at $10 an hour and that was 10 years ago. I know the place that took over the company pays $12 an hour but I guess that is because it is a high pressure job.

FedEx Dispathers Starts out less than that. Once they get train then they make more.

Yes,they are brought in through temp agencies and start at 10.00/hr. No bonuses or even benefits until they are here for four months. After that time they are given a small increase in pay but no bonuses. We do get a lot of high school grads, college kids and housewives, not very many at all have prior dispatch experience. They are drug tested and backround checks done. We only had one dispatcher from Conway make the move to Panther.

Scott is telling it the way it is at Panther. He will tell you that none of the Dispathers get paid a bonus on loads they get covered.

Wow That answers a lot of dumb experience I have had, like the dispatcher who hung up on my during a load offer for no reason.

I know first hand that it is difficult to build a good dispatching team but I would have thought that these companies would have it together.

Yes it takes at least a good 6 months before a dispatcher is on top of things. There is a ton of info to learn and it just depends on how quick they pick up on the system. Some get it,some don't. This is why there is a 4 month window from temp to hire. We have a pretty good idea if they're gonna cut it after that time. If not,we let them go.

I don't believe that the path to a good dispatcher is hiring them from a temp agency but rather hire from the driver pool - which I know in the situation you are in is hard to do.

Our fleet was small, biggest it ever got was 220 vehicles and about 400 drivers spread out over several states, so managing a 1000 vehicles with ICs is really hard. We dealt with life dependent situations so dispatchers were essential to keeping the business running without killing the people we were serving.

We actually have a few former Panther drivers that are now dispatchers. The only problem we encounter when hiring experienced dispatchers is that they have the "that's not how we did it at ________(fill in the blank)and secondly is the their salary requirements. They usually require quite a bit higher salary.

Sylvia was the only one that came down from Conway. Not sure where the others landed. I understand where they're coming from, that's a bit of a distance to just uproot overnight. Sylvia is currently still going through the training process, learning the computer system,etc...

Yep I understand. Have you ever thought of a good trainning program and telecommuting. I can't remember the name of the company (not an expediter) that uses this setup.

Ok Scott you treat her good now (Sylvia) she is really a sweet Lady and I mean LADY.

When I was with Conway she was very helpful.

And all you Panther people that never was with Conway don't give her a hard time she knows her job and she won't take no bull from you.
