Absolutely, you can get great deals from the property itself, priceline and other sites do the work for you.

I used to negotiate coupons, politely asking if they would honor a weekday price on the weekend, they usually would if occupancy rates were low.

If you're just using Priceline to book a room rather than bid on one I'd agree. But I've always got way better deals when actually bidding.
2 recent examples are the Embassy Suites DTW for $51 and $53. The best rack rate those nights was $109. I also got these by bidding on the same day we stayed.

Our last hotel stay was the same , 47 dollars a night, front desk said rack rate was 120.00, weekend, raddison, Rochester, ny.
Also, my bids are sameday as well.

Sorry price was 99 a night i got it for 53 a night it's a residence inn by marriot 3 star hotel the letters me behind Scarborough stand for the state of Maine scarborough is next to Portland,me and yes I used priceline mobile app on my iphone4
