I am on disability and yes, I receive medicare. I have had 2 cardiac-bypass surgery's and numerous stent implants not only in my heart but also for circulation in my legs. I worked my *** off all of my life, paid into the system. Isn't that why we paid into it so IF something happened we would have something coming in. I would GLADLY trade places with anyone who thinks it's 'welfare'!!!!!! I would go back driving in a heartbeat, but that's not going to happen because of the restrictions I have. Also, Medicare is NOT FREE!! I pay a co-pay just everyone else does and have a prescription drug program, which I pay for, no free ride like everyone thinks.
With that being said, I agree somewhat with this article. I personally know of one person who claims a disability because he's allergic (supposedly) to perfume. This guy is retired from a very good paying job. Is drawing a very comfortable retirement. BUT, he found a Dr. in Buffalo NY AND a Lawyer to pushed his claim thru. It cost him $!0,000 to the Dr for a statement that he was disabled. THESE are the ones that the gov't. needs to go after. The scamming Dr.'s and lawyer's who are making big cash to get people on disability. but in todays society that is not going to happen. Certain doctor's and alot of scum bag lawyers have found a way to make their own living off the gov't.
No...your NOT what this is a about...its about people stubbing there toe and and wanting US as taxpayers to support there lazy butts...my neighbor is on full SS disability.. she is single and has the nicest yard around...always out there doing something....she can obviously be a landscaper..then the buddys wife who says she has a mental condition to keep her from working.. only problem with her she is a flaming bi#ch.....what gets me is there so lazy the sell themselves out for less then $800 p/m..who can live on that??
Back pain, neck pain or mental problems.
The biggest problem is there are SO MANY fakes sucking up SO MUCH of the resource there is not really enough left to help those who may REALLY need it.
There in lies the rub with government programs. They are easily abused. That is EXACTLY why they should have never been put there in the first place. On top of that SS was not meant to be used as a disability program. It was never funded for that and now the entire system is toast.
Unfortunately, what you're been paying in has never been put into any kind of account for you, drawing interest. It went out the next month after it was taken from you to pay someone else whose claim may or may not have been legit.I've been working in various jobs since I was 18 years old. I've paid thousands of dollars into the system. I think I'm entitled to get what was promised me in the event of a disability.
Good bad or indifferent, the reality is that folks on disabilty take out much more than they ever put in. Part of the reason it is running in the red.
Medicare and medicaid are in the same boat. The average person puts in slightly above 100k in a life time...maybe. The average cost that is spent per person is close to 400k. That's a problem as we keep borrowing the difference.
The numbers are huge but not all of it is from the people that are on it fraudulently. Much of it is from improper and fraudulent billing and attorneys that abuse the whole system.
Back pain is the most common disability.
