WARNING, those of the liberal persuasion will likely have their head explode from a common sense overload. Reciprocal diplomatic immunity is a crock. A better system is we're the U.S. and our stick is bigger than your stick so walk the line or we'll use our stick on your head. Of course that requires better leadership than we currently have to maintain the strength to stand behind the guarantee.

Leo,

Thank you for your thoughts on furthering International Relations - we are extremely lucky, as well as truly honored, that you would choose us, here in the EO body-politik, to be the first to hear of this.

Your profound insights into the nature of what makes for better relations and understanding between civilized peoples will undoubtedly be viewed for the watershed moment that it is.

I'm quite sure that your extensive experience (as the target of the dominant child on the school playground) as you were growing up allowed you ample time, and provided a uniquely fertile environment for your young mind to perfect your methodology and techniques into a near art-form.

Coupled with your vast experience in familial plumbing verification, how could anyone have the least doubt about your ability to see behind the facade and into the true nature of men (and, of course ....... most particularly, young women)

I'm totally confident that such a measure will make all peoples of the Earth like us much morer ..... and cause them to want to be our BFF's (Best Friends Forever) ..... and certainly will not make any American citizen - who might be traveling out of the country - a target ..... nor will will our citizens' abroad heads unexpectedly explode ...... (as your's evidently has ) ..... although other parts of them likely will ....

I suggest that you immediately start working on your speech for the dedication ceremony for the new Leo D. Bricker School of International Relations that I understand Harvard is considering, and is now sure to adopt - with a winning strategy such as the one you have outlined above, it's sure to be a lock.

As always, your devoted fan,
Elmer Gantry

To think you represent this site is .. well just stupid ....
No .... no ...... actually, it's more along the lines of ..... somewhat nauseating ....

Really, it's sorta like when you're on a really hot load and you have no time to stop and eat .... and then you make that fatal decision to whip into the J and grab that last, lonely Johnsonville Brat .... that's been cooling it's little piggly heels - for at least the last couple of days - in that silver brat sauna and steam bath, over there next to the Krispy Kremes and the faux fountain drinks .....

Ya run back out to the truck, and scarf it down as your flyin' down the road .....

..... first, you kind of dimly recall that it had a sorta greenish cast to it .... but you figured it was just bad lighting in the J .......

.... next you remember ...... that it somehow just didn't taste or smell quite right .... but you figured that was a combination of the cold you have ...... and that exhaust leak you been meaning to get fixed for the last several months .....

..... and finally it dawns on you ..... that it actually exploded ..... in a sickly, sort of over-ripe manner ..... when you bit into it ....

.... and then the next thing you know you're whipping it onto the shoulder ...... looking more like a human weed-sprayer than a expediter ..... as you leave the DOT roadside mowing crew a little roadside present .....

Apparently, it's just hard to find good help these days ... goobers however, are easy .... and plentiful evidently ....

That just pizzes me to think that you can be so ignorant!!

If you don't like that I have 2 words for ya!

To think you represent this site is ..well just stupid...you should be stripped of moderator status and disciplined....this is an international site...

I stand with OVM 100% on this! Such arrogance just magnifies the irresponsible cowboy mentality that this forum is occasionally laced with. Then again, I supose those who are victims of a fierce Napoleon complex feel the need to carry a "big stick"

Let's see, has just talking stopped Iran from working towards building nukes? Has it stopped North Korea? Has talking stopping China from their murderous ways? Has it stopped Russia from expanding again? Has it freed Tibet from China's grip? Has it stopped Muslim extremists yet?

I don't know that military action is always best but it is quite clear that what we have been doing is not working. The "Cold War" ended when we increased the size of the "stick". We did not have to use that stick but it did take a bigger "stick" than the Soviets had to stop them.

What is your answer? Isolationism? Capitulation? Appesement?
More talk? Is it better to talk from a position of weakness or strength? Does being weak in a military sense increase or decrease our chances of being attacked? Did not stopping Hitler's expansion save lives?

What is your solution? Maybe just throw up our hands, do nothing and fight what ever comes along? Maybe just give up and let anyone who wants to attack us both here and abroad do it? Are there any economic, security or military concerns that warrant military actions? If so, what would you consider them to be?

"I have no problem saying Niger, or any of the other African nations names for that matter."

This man is to be treated with the utmost respect! He has the guts to make quotes like this just days after the last election. He represents the core values this site promotes, which is why he is a respected moderater. He was right on the money with that N word thread too! It is too bad that political correctness is just so trendy. At least they took that Darnell character out for making a post questioning that thread. That was uncalled for!
Is that you Doug!? An example of taking something out of context if there ever was one.

Was there a current event that caused you to write this or just a building of anger over the years that finally bubbled up?

Oh, We had several different names for that Duty Station, none of which would ever be put in a Tourist pamphlet.

I'm on the fence with this one, I don't know what's in his mind today or what frustrates him, so ...

Leo, what are you assuming? That diplomatic immunity is a liberal thing?

Guess you don't get that it was something that came before the age of Aquarius.

Reciprocal diplomatic immunity is a crock.

I agree 100% that is it a crock but it is what we have had for 240 years. It is made to prevent things like harassment or even killings of diplomats, staff and their families.

A better system is we're the U.S. and our stick is bigger than your stick so walk the line or we'll use our stick on your head.

I don't understand the connection, the diplomatic immunity is about just that - diplomatic immunity and not negotiations.

Negotiations is something that takes place outside the immunity agreements, but it is under the immunity agreements - understand? We don't and should not have the right to negotiate the same way Hitler did with Schuschnigg.

Of course that requires better leadership than we currently have to maintain the strength to stand behind the guarantee.

Well that's a different thing too. Our present lack of leadership is one problem, traffic tickets in NYC is another.

Iran is one issue, Korea is another and EU is going to be a third up and coming. If Canada decides to invade us for our health care, then there will be a fourth that our great leader/messiah won't be able to handle.

I mean Leo, if you watch 24 and get all involved with the BS that the show has had in this season, then I can understand the statement but it just doesn't work that way.

This is a combination of things. One is a day off of tv and movies in which various murderers and other criminals have zero consequences because they are shielded by diplomatic immunity. Yes, I know that's Hollywood fiction however it's the principle that's faulty and can and does come into play often, especially in DUI cases where injuries and death occur.

The primary point is that we should be the biggest/baddest dog in the hunt. That is not because we are better than anyone else globally although we are better than others globally in specific cases. For that matter we are better than many of our own citizens in specific cases as well. The point is not to go around biting all the time, it's to be too fearsome of being bitten by us to never have to bite.

The other part of it, that isn't specifically diplomatic immunity but again is the need for greatest strength, is the fact that in the last 9 years in Afghanistan 1/3 of American casualties have been in the last year. Hopefully you can figure out what that means on your own.

Diplomatic immunity is a "sticky" thing to say the least. We did not have that immunity when we were overseas. We were subject to the laws of the country we were stationed in. In England that was not a problem. In Pakistan it was. Much depended on the mind set of the host country. The military is not covered under that immunity for the most part either. They are most often covered by things along the lines of a "Statute of Forces Agreement" that lays out what crimes and actions we are held accountable for etc. It is becoming apparent that diplomatic immunity is getting out of hand and needs to be re-visited on an international basis. The silliness must be removed while somehow still protecting diplomats from false charges. Glad that is not my job.

While there are some instances of diplomatic immunity protecting some stupid action by a diplomat, most are fairly well behaved in their host nations. It is not a license to do whatever you want but was originally supposed to protect diplomats. It is easy to contravene a lot of laws in a foreign country as I'm sure a few of us have found out in our travels. Without this immunity many more diplomatic missions and housing would be attacked and damaged and many more hostages taken. The Iranian situation showed what happens when a nation allows the immunity to go by the wayside. Fortunately they kept it in place for us Canucks who used it to help a few yanks out of a precarious position. This of course was not the idea of it but they broke the rules and so did we.
This system has been in place for years and has been helpful for many nations in allowing their representatives to help citizens, conduct negotiations, provide aid and much more.
