If your still running your Aerocell SRW, what mileage are you getting?
How much idling time is included in that mileage?
Are you having any problems with your Aerocell SRW?

Thanks
GJ

Does anyone have any mileage information on this van in expedite use?
Dealer says up to 20 mpg, don't believe that!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Sounds high. Whatever the stock mpg is on a chassis, subtract 1 or 2 mpg and you are probably closer to reality.
Terry may have alittle more insight on this than I.

Yes I am still running it and loving it more everyday. Anybody wanting to stay away from the Sprinter and all their problems should look closely at the Aerocell SR. The extra width over a regular van and even the Sprinter sure does give you more room for storage. As for Sprinter fuel milage i talked to a guy the other day who had his records on computer kinda like mine and his average for last year was 19.2 and he can't idle to stay warm or cool,so if you figure that close it will take over 300,000 miles just to make back the extra purchase cost not counting extra maitenance and repair cost. Then you have to buy and maintain a gen or something to stay warm and cool.If I wanted to go diesel I would go with either a Ford or GM because you can idle them. Got over 140,000 miles on it now and for all last year I averaged 14.3 MPG. I idle some in the winter to keep it warm inside. For an example we were in Cedar Rapids Iowa. It was 7 degrees with a stiff wind blowing when we went to bed. It was 12 degrees when we got up the next morning. We slept 8 hrs 45 minutes and the engine ran 3.1 hrs. during the night. We had the thermostat set at 62 degrees and 15 minutes of the run time was after i tripped the thermostat to warm it up before we crawled out of bed. During the day we set the thermostat on 70.Now in the summer if we can find shade that doesn't block our QC and the temp is not above about 95 the van will run 15 minutes about every 45 minutes to an hour to keep it below 80 inside. Above 95 and out in the sun I just let the engine idle all the time. Only thing I have done to the body is adjust the doors to tighten them up a little. That was pretty soon after I got it and haven't done anything but use it since then.I need to wax it soon. As far as the van itself I put a set of spark plugs in it and that is all other than oil changes.Set of plugs was less than $20.00 and took me about 3 hrs. Of course I wasn't on the clock so didn't rush too much lol. Don't know what a shop would charge. Dieseldoctor

By the way ,we were headed east on I-90 in NY the other day and saw a FECC Aerocell headed west. just caught a glimspe through some trees and couldn't tell what chassis he had. Maybe Terry can find out and talk to him and see how he likes his. Just a thought.

This isen't really a question about your Aerocel, but how did you set it up so your engine runs automaticly at a set temp? A remote start of some sort?

You got it! I took a remote start that has a circuit that any time you ground that circuit it will start the engine. I used an old household thermostat and hooked to that circuit. When thermostat closes engine starts. I have mine programed to run 15 minutes which seems to work great. Dieseldoctor

Coming out of Detroit yesterday heading south on 75 I saw an Aerocell with Michigan plates. Didn't have any markings on it so I don't know if it was an expediter or not.

Dieseldoctor,
I'm new to this whole idea, so bear with me. What do you mean that the Expediters can't idle to keep you warm or cool?
Thanks,
JS

RE: dieseldoctor are you still runnig your Aerocel

XV8TR It's the Sprinters that can't idle to stay warm and cool because it carbons up the EGR valve and the last I heard it was a $500.00 repair bill to fix. I understand they are on their third redesign now and it doesn't seem to be any better. I haven't personally worked on one and sure don't own one so am just repeating what I can find out by talking with old mechanic contacts and owners that I have met. Also I see a lot of stuff concerning them on the internet but take it all with a grain of salt. So if you are thinking of buying one I advise you check around and get all the information you can and then make your decision.

If buying a Sprinter I would recommend a auxilary power unit.

On the Aerocells, Chevy had one at the MATS show and it was dock high. Not sure on the model but was a HD chassis. The gvw was 12,000 lbs. A single axle is just under ten according to their sales rep.
