The people stealing an identity are not the ones buying lists etc. They do not do things in a legitimate manner. It's the person behind the counter or on the phone making eight bucks an hour you hand your card to or read it over the phone. Or the person hacking into computer systems, swiping your mail, running a scanner over your pocket while in line behind you and things like that. I can understand having that happen could make a person jumpy but those people are not going to bother with purchasing a list from a legitimate business. They can get the plenty of names and addresses out of a phone book it that is what they want and it doesn't leave something to trace.

You will find that things you think are legal are not. Check things out on this web site.

Bruno although there are a few laws concerning credit info, certain government offices sharing info and children there is no law preventing a private business from selling a name, phone number, email or home address. Many times these can be broke down by demographic info, frequent buyers of things via catalogs, home values and incomes by zip code and much more info.

I did get off the safety hold and was loaded the following morning. Maybe my long on hold time was penance for years of messing with telemarketers and Mormons.

Enjoy the Laredo sunshine. It's cold and raining in Chicago. At least it is not snowing, yet.

Could it be that Safety thought you were a telemarketer?

IF you are a registered DBA, LLC or INC, then you are on a mailing list based on the type of business you picked out from the BIG list of businesses.

These are not really mailing lists but public domain records, like when you go through a bankruptcy, you are in the public and anyone can get that list - legal too.

I never find wasting someones who is trying to earn a living humorous. All it would take is when they call saying I am not interested please remove me from your list. That would be like someone calling who you dropped a business card off with one day and saying they have a load can you run by and grab it, then you get there and they were just joking around.

Guess thats the diffrence between you and I, They call me I don't call them, and I get paid for dry runs so easy money always works.

I just can't understand why someone would want to send out a letter asking me to sign my trucks on with them just to sign it on with Panther, Express 1, and FedEx Custom Critical. Are they trying to start a union in Expediting.

I don't think you would, since everything goes to my office not my home address.

Dave,
Believe me he is 100% right. All the information is out there, and when we get into electronic medical records, that will be accessible on all kinds of different levels.

The sad thing is people can't figure out the mess we are in with our information. Buy something, register to make the purchase, and that information can be made public by one little mistake. Deal with a bank that does it's check processing overseas or a credit card company that has customer service in India or China or where ever and your information is accessible - India doesn't have privacy laws on foreign data.

It doesn't matter because our government is so lagging behind countries like Mexico when it comes to data security.

AND I haven't even touched on public records.

I think that even the Feds sell information, like demographic profiles based on census information. If that is correct that is all the more reason to be as vague on the census form as possible.
