The city of Detroit has been losing population since the 1950's.
This is a fact.
For the news agencys (all of them) to blame it on the collapse of the auto industry is irresponsible journalism. They need to tell the whole story of LBJ's "Great Socity" plans. This was the straw that broke the camels back IMO. Up until that time, it could have still be saved.
