Detroit, what can I say

People think I am making up how horrible this city is, it is a dirty, disgusting place that has gone down hill more than ever in the last 5 years. The following story has happened here before a few times but not resulting in a death.

From the Detroit News.

DETROIT -- An argument over gas prices has left one man dead and another in police custody. The shooting happened at the Marathon station on the corner of Springwells and Fort Street in southwest Detroit.

Police said the owner of a BP gas station on that same corner confronted the Marathon owner around 10:30 a.m. for lowering his price on a gallon of unleaded gasoline to $2.93 per gallon -- three cents less than the BP station.

The confrontation then escalated into a physical fight with employees from both stations involved. One man was hit with a baseball bat.

Police said the 51-year-old owner of the Marathon station then pulled out a gun and shot the owner of the BP station.

The 45-year-old father of five died at the scene. The Marathon owner was taken into police custody.

Greg, the same scenario could, and does, happen anywhere in the country. There are crazies everywhere, you know, and stress just brings out their craziness.
You like to portray Michigan as a state with ludicrous policies, but Ohio isn't any different. Ohio forces vehicles to be emissions tested, a program they've admitted is worthless, but they signed a contract guaranteeing the testing facilities a minimum income, so we must continue to be tested. To add insult to injury, a "check engine" light guarantees failure, even if the light is on because the fuel cap isn't tightened down far enough!
My favorite though, is that instead of requiring applicants for vehicle registration or renewal to show proof of insurance, they simply ask them to sign a statement indicating they have the required insurance. Then the BMV sends out random letters, demanding the recipient provide proof of insurance! What kind of idiot thought that one up? It causes a nightmare for folks who have changed addresses since registering, and adds complexity to something that ought to be simple: show proof of insurance when registering the vehicle.
Michigan has no lock on Darwin Award deserving politicians, or crazy citizens, either.

Cheri,
I don't agree, we are the only state that has a VAT tax and we have led the country in lost jobs, lost business and lost people.

Our leader and her staff went to Japan to drum up business for the state and was in tokyo hob-nobing with the government officials, shop Mitsukoshi and catch a show in Ginza-Yurakucho area but when they were asked to go visit Toyota, she sent her staff to talk to them - how insulting to send her staff, Toyota was not happy.

I haven't heard yet how many jobs were lost in Ohio this year but I am willing to trade politicians one to one if you want to see the difference. I give Ohio 6 months and then it will be flying downhill.

Hey, i like hearing that kind of news from Detroit. I'm planning on moving to Iowa (no not because of the lack of jobs, or the poor economy or anything like that :+ ) But if you ever watch the news there it sux. Talking about people doing good deeds, and good positive news about the city and the people. That stuff gets boring... I want to hear about someone getting shot. Nobody wants to hear about some fund raiser for kids thats going on... GEEZE }>

Come on Greg its not all bleek in Detroit. You HAVE ALL THOSE CASINOS, replacing all of those Automotive Jobs. Look at it this way when there are no more Auto Jobs, all the Casino employees can gamble all there $ back to the Owners thus starting a new circle of circulating dollars.

Makes sense? So does gambling and those that see it as way to increase Govt earnings. Someones got to loose, I guess those billboards about (got a gambling problem) are just to make others feel good they do not have the problem, when really like I said in one other post.

Its not about us, ITS ABOUT ALL OF US.
