Deer Guards

The other day, I am driving down I95 minding my own business when out of the shadows comes something that is BIG, dark and running along side the road. I slowed down and it was a Pig that had to be at least 300 lbs. About 300 feet south of this piggy, was a flock of pigs.

Today, I am sitting here minding my own business watching the Epcot fireworks and here pulls up a sprinter. The guy comes over to say 'hey' and I had to ask him about his 'deer guard'. He thought it was funny when I called it that. He said "son, that there is a pig guard". He told me the story how he was driving down some road at 3 in the morning to go fishing and he hit one the them "d*mn oinkers" that was running along the road and totaled out his sprinter. So he vowed not to have that happen again. I couldn't take a picture but it is a work of art. If anyone knows what a Reunel bumper is, they will have an idea how big this thing was. He said he already tested it out on one of the creatures.

I called about the aero lt guard that jack linked to, $2500.00 plus 400.00 for freight to the east coast. Don't get me wrong they are beautiful and they will work in a animal strike and probably a low speed vehicle crash, but they are little out of my price range. The price listed above would be for a 03-10 express van with no options. They come in at around 300 pounds but you replace your bumper so the actual extra weight to the front of your van is more like 180-200 pounds. If my van was new i would be putting this on, but since i got 366k on mine now and i am getting a new bumper and grill "thank you mrs. Doe" i think that i will wait till my next unit. It took me 2 vans and over 1 million miles to get my 1st deer strike so i consider my self lucky.

Have you looked at Dodge - Freightliner Sprinter Van: Accessories and Equipment yet?
They have some interesting stuff for Sprinters, including Front Push Bumpers etc...
Kewl site, good for looking at stuff, but that particular online retailer (and their parent company) has a particularly bad reputation for several reasons, none of which I'll go into here. The Yahoo Sprinter Group contains many horror stories, tho.

Places with infinitely better reputations, you're much better off dealing with someone like EuroCampers out of Missouri, or the Sprinter Store (Upscale Auto) out of Oregon. I've dealt with both many times. Both are highly recommended.
