Deer Guards

Anyone have one?

This issue never comes up even after one of us takes a deer out, we only complain about how much the deer costs us...

Now we drive at the riskiest times out there..remote locations...and I've seen very few if any guards...for 600-800 bucks one can have a high quality light weight one made up for your van...it is a once in a lifetime investment...as you can take it to your next truck...it could save your whole investment and serious injury....it could save your life...

I've had this venison processor on my truck for about 3 years. It's worked, I haven't come close to getting another deer. :D

Question is, how much fuel economy if any do you lose with one of these on the front of the truck?

I hit a deer twice in 1 year. That bumper would make an excellent investment. The deer I hit a week 2 weeks ago was just a baby and did 3500 dollars worth of damage. I'm still cussing after 14 days. I may get me one of them deer processors in the future.

and then you'll need a bigger altenator and upgrade your batteries...*LOL* it never ends...

Anyone use an infrared camera? Wonder if it would help in seeing things quicker at night and poor visibility? --eb

As turtle mentioned, have you priced them?

They should be a quarter of the price they are now.

Forward looking Infrared only works as well as the driver can multitask. I had a chance to try one for a few weeks and it worked only so well, it did give me a heads up on a cat and a few coyot's but deer seemed to know you were using it and evaded being seen until they were ready to get run over. Oh and it didn't work well with Armadillos for some reason.

As far as seeing with one, it is a good thing to see the guy who is dressed in all black walking on the road in the middle of a cloudy night.

All these great new technologies don't mean a thing with dumb and stupid drivers.

Saw this the other day. The Sprinter driver said the guard came from Mexico. She has hit one deer since the installation, with no vehicle damage.
