I do recall some old posts on EO concerning Sprinters & deer guards ..
Correct me if I'm wrong, haven't some members advised against putting a deer guard on Sprinters? Sprinters being unibody ...
I don't have time now to sift through & search ...

I concur.
When accidents happen, front of sprinters collapse under the engine. Attaching front guards prevents the collapse, sending brunt of the force up and over the engine, possibly piercing the windshield and hurting, or killing people behind it.
German engineering, designed to save lives, not equipment.
It's up to us to decide what's more important.

Good points, the guard's main mounts are low and bolted to the sub frame. Depends on location and type of impact what will happen. Could be worse and cause more damage or nothing.
Was going to get the front of the van repainted and guard installed during the planned Holiday break.

Now have new paint and guard, on a totaled van. Hope we don't test the guard, but for now, glad it's on there.

well a good quality "Steel" like tubular steel or angle iron afixed to the frame and freestanding from the front end panels...NOT that cheap tubular pipe/chromed up, they sell that gives way when you even lean on it...which will add weight to the front end undoubtly and reduce load capacity, I guess there is a trade off....I dunno...which came first chicken or the egg?....

Not to downgrate some guards out there, but for sprinters it's a false sense of security. Front is soft enough that it will still collapse in an impact. How it will be collapsing is a different story.
Hope you never have to experience the ordeal again.
If I was ever putting a bar there, it will be tiny, in the middle. (only to accommodate extra lights, never to hit a deer ️).
Hope your repair drives the same or better than before.

agreed...A center strike is almost a death blow to a sprinter....I've been lucky to have just headlight, grill, fender, and 1/4 panel involved...side strikes

The deer strike was body damage only. The van drives fine, put 1.500 miles on it before repairs. Hard call, fixing it or not. We figure to get a couple more years out of it.

Just body?
I must have missed that when you originally posted.
You are lucky, I guess.
I've met some people that lost radiator, fans, even belts and pullies due to frontal deer strike.

Don't remember. How'd hes sprinter do?
Although, his is older, they were built like tanks back then.

Not bad... headlight, 1/4 panel, grill, bumper wrap...enough to total the van as damage exceeded 50% of assessed value which in the small print insurance companies have the option
