You've got to read it to believe it. After you've read it, you still won't believe it. All over the place on the issues, sometimes contradictory, mostly (unintentionally) funny. This is from the blog of a divorced mother, 41 years old. Originally from Canada, now a US citizen. I'm tempted to tell you who it is, but that would only cloud the issue, the issue being that she is far from unique in her thinking.

Dear Mr. Obama:
My thoughts/hopeful ideas-:
-Free Leonard Peltier- This injustice is just breeding Hate and discrimination. It would be very meaning ful to the Native American people and all of us ho have watched and been saddened by a broken system
(There are too many people in jail that don’t need to be there-it IS a broken system- that enrages more people than it helps) - not saying that there aren’t people who need to be jailed while determining their fate- but Jail should be a holding cell for justice and not a lifelong waste of taxpayers money to run a spa for criminals-how does this improve society?

Especially when there are real threats to our most precious citizens -our children- in most cases child molesters are walking free. Government must Castrate every molester-or potential molester- error on the safe side- if any child pornography is found in anyone’s possession-or anyone creating such atrocities-or if any child Is brave enough to come forward (at any young age to bring attention to a potential molester- listen) they need to be taken very seriously and see that justice is served-The abuse is way worse than any trial could be- our children need more protection and justice seen. It needs to be PREVENTED not just punished.

I think we should Legalize Marijuana, tax and monitor -farm Hemp etc-this would make our borders less corrupt and then I think eventually this will be more secure option and save children in the long run – we should be able to farm Hemp in America- it’s just silly— it would create jobs- and be good for environment.

(a personal note - Save the Children, Grow Hemp? Seriously?)

Bring our Troops home safely- Stop the killing and work with Veterans to secure a peaceful way world wide-using their 1st hand wisdom lovingly across all borders together. It is not a war Economy anymore- obviously-

Stop all these garbage, wasteful and ineffective ,ancient animal tests (from 80 years ago?)- create a REAL working dedicated and active group of people assigned to this issue- science is suppose to be progressive? We need to get with it- update like Europe has – it’s an embarrassment and nobody wishes this senseless cruelty to go on.

Please get rid of this private insurance and private health care system- it’s corrupt and doesn’t work-
Government should take over both those areas- supplying secure government jobs where people are dedicated to their job and it is a proven system- Canada etc- supplying proper insurance to everyone – It’s much easier and government should supply these services for the taxes we pay- we would all be protected- pharmaceuticals would be affordable- to those that need it/especially our elderly- see that everyone has car insurance (there should not be an uninsured driver on the road) and health insurance- the same for everyone- isn’t this what we pay taxes for?

(I wouldn't even know where to begin on the above)

Promote vegetarianism-which would help end world hunger- crack down on factory farming that is killing the environment and slaughtering so many animals- wastefully and carelessly and it’s unhealthy/and it’s just impractical- to think this is monitored/regulated effectively..

(yeah, meat eaters are just withering away)

Please Shut down Guantanamo Bay-figure it out- make amends/stop torture- it’s time for peaceful solutions- and cooperation world wide sharing resources and protecting each other- education, missionary work- bring the world together help each other- with resources now- its considered a very small place- We are each other’s keeper no matter what side of the border we were born-nobody is less than.

And if people are hard working why cant they work and pay taxes in America- if they have no criminal record- why do we have illegal immigration it should be made easier for people to work here- all they want to do is work- some Americans sure have a sense of entitlement that’s unhealthy, unwise and selfish at times… Thank God it’s a new day!

(It's just funny to me to see where someone complains about the selfishness of entitlements, and promotes government entitlements for all, in the same posting.)

What's the problem? There aren't enough hard drives in the EO RAID to hold a proper response to that. But for starters, she's advocating the preemptive strike for the castration of all potential child molesters, which includes you, me, and everyone else with the physical attributes that would benefit from such snippage.

She wants to legalize marijuana so the borders would become less corrupt, more secure and make the world a safer place for the children. It would also create jobs and benefit the environment. Children, jobs, environment, how can you say no to that?

She thinks it's the military veterans, using their first hand knowledge, will be able to bring peace, lovingly I might add, across all borders.

The government should take over health care, and do so for the taxes that we are already paying, cause isn't that what we're paying taxes for currently? Yes, of course it is. And if the government took over health care, apparently the pharmaceutical companies will no longer feel the need to recoup any of their R&D costs, and we'd all have cheap medicines.

Shut down Gitmo and make amends, bring the world together, share everything. Whether they want to or not.

And the concept of illegal immigration should be done away with. It someone wants to come here and work, what's the problem with that? They should be allowed to come here and work. The irony of a Canadian saying that just cracks me up, because in Canada, in order to work there, you have to prove how the skills you posess are so unique that a Canadian cannot perform them.

Earth to Turtle...They're already here!! How do you propose to get rid of them? They're like roaches! Their everywhere! Most of them are quite useful though. Whether you or I approve of them is really immaterial..They're here to stay...

What part of "ALL" and "POTENTIAL" do you have problems understanding? There was no qualifier about UNLESS YOU ARE anything. It was all potential child molesters should be castrated in preemptive fashion. That means anyone with balls. That means you. Doesn't matter whether you are a child molester or not, whether you like looking at pictures of little boys and girls for the wrong reasons or not. ALL means ALL. If you have the potential to be a child molester, there ya go. Potential doesn't mean likely or probably, or has a history of, it means the possibility of. Like she says, "error on the safe side," it's only way to be sure.

The point is not one of worry, it is a point of absurdity that legalizing pot will somehow make the world a safer place for kids. It won't. It won't make the borders more secure, either, nor will it benefit the environment, unless you consider that people will be stoned more often and will tend to drive less, thus burning less fuel. Except that there will be more butane burned in Bic lighters.

Yes, it would, since very few military veterans are trained in the sensitive diplomatic matters of lovingly spreading peace across all political borders. That's not their job. At best, they can keep the peace, often they can restore the peace, but historically they have been extraordinarily bad at speading it.

Gitmo needs to go. Where did she say whether they want to or not???

She didn't say that. I said that. But she assumes that everyone will want to share their resources with each other. History has shown that not to be the case. As for Gitmo, yeah, it needs to go, but it's not as simple as saying we're just gonna close it down. There are people being held there who their own countries don't want anything to do with, and no one else want's them, either.

The fact that they are already here in no way should absolve them of knowingly and blatantly breaking the laws of this nation to get here and stay here. Apparently you believe otherwise, just like the Blog's author, who believes that the concept of illegal immigration should be done away with, and anyone who wants to come here should be able to do so, at will, as long as they come here and work. Great.

Well some good and some questionable ideas from that lady. Gov't health insurance is kinda nice in that it is accepted everywhere in the country (some minor differences in coverage between provinces) so being involved in an accident means you get to go to the hospital and get your broken bones fixed. Yes subsidized drug plans are great for lowering the outlay for prescriptions should you need medication. But all of that really does cost the government a lot. ONe bad thing is the abusers of the system. Those that get a cold and go to the hospital emergency room for treatment and of course it's take a pill you can buy at any pharmacy. But these idiots waste the hospital resources for such stupid things.
Unfortunately medical care everywhere has gotten very expensive and there should be a review of the pricing of services, products and such as everyone is paying too much.

Leagalize hemp well ok as it is a useful product and can made into a wide variety of products. Legalize marijuana? Well maybe a different subject there. Like smoking it has its down sides so a bit of discussion for that one.

While the idea of fixing the legal and justice systems is good we must all remember that it is only in north america where we hold the ideal of innocent until proven guilty and the onus is on the prosecution to prove guilt. Go to Germany and see. There if you are charged you are presumed guilty until YOU prove your innocence. Now if it is a major crime and you don't wholly own your property getting bail is a lot harder, so try and prove you're not guilty from behind bars. Not all that easy.

I can definitely say this lady does not represent a majority of canadians and the opinions expressed by her are hers. Re the open borders well I have to agree with you guys, shut them and allow those legally allowed in to visit and immigrate. Get rid of the illegals (not easy now).

Not that it matters, but just for the record, I've never smoked a joint. Not even once. Been around it, though, and for some reason it gives me severe heartburn when I'm around it, so I've never had any inclination to partake (especially now, knowing the cost, OMG).

Be that as it may, it should be legal. I honestly don't understand how you can outlaw a plant. I mean, it's a plant. That's just the silliest thing I've ever heard. It's a plant. It's like Morning Glory or Nutmeg or Poppy, all of which are perfectly legal. It's what you do with them that may or may not be legal, and that's another issue, but the marijuana plant itself, not what you do with it, is illegal. Until the early part of the 20th century, it was perfectly legal almost everywhere. And you know why it was legal? Because it's a plant!
