Deadhead pay

Dave P. Sorry folks, I forgot to ask about deadhead pay. Why do some Co. pay and some don't? What the average? Hi/low, and how much can you expect that's fair?

And thanks everyone for that detention info! Very clear.

deadhead pay is as low as the companies can pay and still advertise it as a benefit. It's as low as 10 cents per mile after the first 100 or 50 miles for a cargo van, to as much as 50 cents for a tractor.

Deadhead pay is nice to have but generally not a factor in run/relocation decision making process.

As the previous poster said,deadhead pay is inconsequential in most cases.In my case I have been with the same carrier for 18 years,at that time deadhead pay to a D unit was .20 per mile and you ate the first 50. Nowadays with fuel up about 200% from then,deadhead pay is still .20 per mile and you eat the first 100.
