Letterman definitely thought it was the older daughter and he apologized.

I really wish I had kept my esp that demos seem to have. Ever notice how when a demo says something stupid {daily} there is another demo to tell us what the other person really meant to say? And that there is never a shortage of people to make excuses for that person.

The real problem here is the sorry face of the Republican party at this juncture. Palin was first invited to NY to speak at the GOP pow wow. Then she was uninvited to speak, then kind of reinvited then dropped from speaking.Newt did the speaking as he is now seen as the strongest of a weak short list of canidates for 2012.
You guys are masking the weakness of the party and it's foolish line up of losers by bringing up Letterman !! Hell,he's no better or worse then Rush, the king of bad taste.

Focus on why Palin came to NY in the first place and the fodder she has created in the media since day 1.All Letterman did was his job for Christs sake. He's a comedian, and Palin has been an easy target since she hit the national spotlight. Not only did her older girl get knocked up ,he boy freinds Mother turned out to be a dope dealer.Seems Ms. Palin had a busy agenda trying to become a relevant politician and lost sight of being a Mom on a very basic level. She had access to law enforcment to slander a family member, why not check up on what was going on with daughters boy friend s family?

The whole deal is typical of the "conservatives",Do as I say and not as I do.Leo,you are so full of it ,I also suggest you need to get over yourself. You sound down right foolish at times,no offense intended, just sound advise.

Talk about sounding foolish “She had access to law enforcment to slander a family member, why not check up on what was going on with daughters boy friend s family” 1 She never slandered any one there was documentation on the former brother inlaw. So your statement ther was foolish and stupid. Now had she used the police to gather info on her daughter’s parents libs would have been screaming that she misused her power as the gov.

The brother in law case is still under 2 state investigations. Palin is a parent of 2 teenage children. I believe she suspected ,or had suspicion the boy friends Mother had a problem,a big problem. However, she probably felt sorry for her and kept her mouth shut to protect her daughter. If the Governor had of looked a little bit further, she could have busted this kids Mother with a tip to the law. The Mother was running a drug den where dealing and possibly manufacturing were going on. Somebody sure as hell knew. Why was the kid bunking at the Governors house? That alone speaks volumes.
Sorry Scuba, your deep underwater on this one and the air's running out.

Another thing is Levi is Bristol's age, or one year difference. What are you trying to prove here with your nitpicking? The talk was about a 33 yr man and a 14 yr old girl, and you're comparing it to a 17 yr old boy and 16 yr old girl.

Are you from NAMBLA?

Oh hawk you are so funny, I can never get enough of your wit. I just got done watching O'reilly and for a second I thought I was listening to you. You two really have a lot in common. By the way, what's NAMBLA?

I have a warped and liberal point of view of most subjects. However, I think making jokes about anybody's kid getting porked by a ball player is totally out of bounds.

Palin actually owes all women an apology for forcing rape victims in Wasilla to pay for their own $1,200 rape kits. WOW!!

"Not so fast, my friend"
- Lee Corso

"Liberal bloggers have cited the story of Wasilla charging victims for rape kits as evidence that as mayor, Sarah Palin backed cruel and insensitive policies. But just about everything we know from initial accounts of this controversy is wrong..."

And for the rest of the story:

Turtle... you mentioned Letterman said nothing about rape. When he mentioned A-Rod knocking up a 14 yr old, that IS rape... statutory, but rape, nonetheless.
Why would you come on here and insult my intelligence like that?

Letterman never, "mentioned A-Rod knocking up a 14 yr old."

Not even once.
Didn't even come close to it.

He didn't mention the kid by name. He stated that he wasn't aware that the daughter that was with Sarah Palin at the game was the 14 year old. He has a long history of NOT lying, so I have no reason to disbelieve him now, all of a sudden.

You can choose to believe he's lying, although you cannot intelligently justify doing so, and that's fine, I suppose.

The funny thing is, the joke wasn't even about the kid. The kid wasn't the subject of the joke, Sarah Palin was. The daughter getting knocked up by A Rod was the punchline.

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."

If it had said, "One awkward moment for Sarah Palin's 14 year old daughter, during the seventh inning A Rod knocked her up," that would have been a far different joke, that would have been a joke about the kid, and would have been the joke that people are getting all bent out of shape about right now.

But, let's say that he DID mention A Rod knocking up a 14 year old girl, the girl STILL wouldn't be the subject of the joke, A Rod would be. It was A Rod that did anything in the joke, not the daughter.

Like I said, on the surface the joke is fine, it's only when you read into it what's not there that it becomes a problem. And when you read things that aren't there into what I say, and then try to use it to insult my intelligence, it's an even bigger problem. My original post on this issue stands on its own. You should go back and re-read it. Here, I'll make it easy for you. Just click: Click here if you are cerebrally challenged!

Some food for thought for all of you fellas....

1. Why would it be ok to make this tasteless joke about ANY female of ANY age?

2. As a way to check yourselves for any double standard thinking, remove the names of the Palin girls and insert the names of the Obama girls.

3. In case number 2 didn't do it for you, remove the names of the Palin girls and insert the names of your mother, sister, wife, or daughter.

Well, the First Amendment makes it OK. But regardless, the joke wasn't about any female of any age. It was about the juxtaposition of the awkward moment (of Sarah Palin, who had a daughter in her own home become pregnant) with that of the extraordinarily promiscuous and well oft joked about Alex Rodriguez.

2. As a way to check yourselves for any double standard thinking, remove the names of the Palin girls and insert the names of the Obama girls.
Neither of the names of the Palin girls are mentioned in the joke. Nothing to remove, nothing to insert.

3. In case number 2 didn't do it for you, remove the names of the Palin girls and insert the names of your mother, sister, wife, or daughter.
The only names mentioned in the joke are Sarah Palin and Alex Rodriguez. Replacing these names with any family member, or anyone at random, would likely be meaningless, as the effectiveness of the "awkward moment" would be lost, as would the sexual proclivity of A Rod.

It's amazing how something so basic and so clear can be so incomprehensible to some people. No, Letterman didn't mention the daughter by name or by age. He did say she got knocked up in the 7th inning by context. She and her mother were the ones there. The 18 yr old sister was presumably in Alaska. Their trip to N.Y. was sort of a big deal. It was reported by various media. It's very likely he saw video of them elsewhere prior to making the inadvisable joke. It's almost guaranteed at least some of the writers did. It should be obvious to any of them they are seeing a 14 yr old girl and not an 18 yr old woman.

If the joke had been made about someone over 18 it would have been tasteless but excusable as more of the usual. The joke being made about anyone 14 is inexcusable, whether Palin's daughter or Obama's daughter or my daughter. The only difference is the consequences of making it about my daughter.

You may be on to something there Leo:

He must have meant the 14 yr old because he didn't say knocked up AGAIN, he just said knocked up. I mean a professional joke writer would have said something like Palin's daughter was knocked up AGAIN this time at the Yankee game where A-Rod was showing her a true 7th inning stretch. Funnier joke and no chance of a misunderstanding.

He must have been talking about the 14 year old not the 18.

Lets get this boycott rolling boys you've done convinced me! Where can I join the cause!

Wait did you guys say mars candy? like m&m's. milky way, snickers, dove. skittles starburst and such?

Sorry but you will have to go it alone.

If you come up with a nice kale, or spinach (not creamed spinach thats too dam tasty) or brussel sprout, or Liver, or lean cuisine boycott give me a shout ok.

"It's very likely he saw..."
"It's almost guaranteed..."
"It should be obvious..."

Wow. Good thing you're not a trial attorney. Was there even video of them together prior to making the joke? That's the first thing you'd have to determine. Then, you'd have to know what Letterman's video viewing habits were on a daily basis to know whether or not he "likely saw" any of it. Even if the writers saw any video, which they may not have, unless they were keenly familiar with both daughters, they might have simply jumped to the conclusion that it was the 18 year old who would be traveling to from AK to NY with her mother, and not the younger one. And 14 or 18, it might not be so obvious. There's a lot of 14 year olds who don't look 14.

"The joke being made about anyone 14 is inexcusable, whether Palin's daughter or Obama's daughter or my daughter. The only difference is the consequences of making it about my daughter."

Why, was one of your daughters knocked up as a teenager? If not, the "awkward moment" wouldn't even apply, the joke wouldn't have even been made. Besides, "the joke" wasn't made about anyone 14. Other people made it out to be that.

Why do you think David Letterman is lying when he says he didn't realize that it was the younger daughter, and that it was a mistake? He's never had a history of lying, and he's never had a history of making jokes of the type he's being accused of.

Sorry for those who are defending letterman, the problem is that unless he and his staff live in an absolute vacuum, there is no excuse for the joke. He derives his jokes from daily events and like others, has a staff who is supposed to check the facts and write the jokes.

The NY post and times both reported Palin with her 14 year old daughter (which the age was mentioned) was in NY for several reasons, the city of Auburn Founder's Day celebration because of the ties to the purchase of her state in 1867. She was on Long Island to pick up an award for her work with disabled kids and that too was talked about in a few of the local rags and even had a couple spots on the news. I think the republican thing was a secondary event.

So regardless there is a standard that should be followed when it comes to talking about kids and he and his staff failed to follow it. His appoligy was a joke and it shows the immaturity of the entertainer. I say boycott his sponsors.

WOW.....

You make a mistake as a young person and you are FOREVER fodder for tasteless jokes?? She "brought it on herself"? How many more "awkward moments" will be acceptable and moving forward, how long can we expect this "sentence" to continue....or is it for life?

I got it....let's just put a scarlet "S" on her forehead and be done with it....yea, that'll do it.

Now....what SHALL we do with all the old people that are so unforgiving in their thinking....those who's minds are either so weak or calloused that they cannot recall the "sins" of THEIR OWN YOUTH?

And what about the "liberal" young girls....oh wait, we won't be needing jokes and ridicule for them....we'll never know about THEIR mistakes....they pay big bucks to have them aborted.

The joke was made about the Sarah Palin and her daughter visiting Yankee Stadium. The daughter who was with her was 14. Whether he was thinking she was the older daughter, it doesn't matter. He made the joke, and she happened to be 14!

Same would happen if someone said the N word, as a joke, not knowing a black man was standing behind him. What's he gonna say? "I didn't mean YOU."

Regardless if you believe him or not, if he apologized, it would just go away. But that would mean he kissed up to the "slutty flight attendant" looking governor. Then he has the nerve to say he'd love to have Palin on his show? Why? So he can tell her she looks like a horses arse on national TV?
