Layout,I agree with you 100% on the issue of taking responsibility for parenting correctly and with understanding and structure. I was (still am) a single parent of my two kids from age's 4 and 2. Although I had some help from Grandparents on both sides so I could travel for work,I was the responsible party.
The one thing I knew,and paid close attention to,was who their friends were,and most importantly what was going on at their homes.Although I could probably be categorized as a counter culture father,it did not involve drugs of any kind,particularly cigarettes and alcohol.So many parents think these two vice's have no influence's on kids. That's just so wrong.Kids follow the lead of Mommy and Daddy first and foremost.If you smoked in front of your kids,or got drunk in front of them you were irresponsible parents. If your kids are drunks that can't stay out of trouble, look in the mirror for a clue as to why.
With my daughter,if I had gut feelings about her male friends in high school ,I made my feeling known. In a few case's, they were simply not allowed to be part of her life. When she broke the rule (snuck around behind my back)I came down hard.I insisted on meeting the parents. I can pretty well spot a crank head or potential drug infested situation. It's not difficult. Palin obviously was too busy to follow up on her daughters boy friends home life . She is now paying a very heavy price for it. Forget the Kennedy's.I mean you guys seem to have to dredge up the past in nearly every post.IT'S NOT RELIVANT TO TODAY and has no bearing on the situation at hand.
I happen to like Letterman,and if he screwed up once,big deal.Out of the thousands of times he's done monologues he screwed this one up. Your treating him like a child molester.Moral high horse's to the rescue. Tar and feather him!! It's a sign of how far your desperate need to attack has come.
By the way,David always has Willie Nelson on his show when Willies in town. A left wing,pot smoking entertainer who has single handily,at great personnel expense,led the cause for the family farm and raised tens of millions of dollars to keep the issue in front of the American people. He's helped countless farmers ,of very political persuasion,keep their family farms.Left wing entertainer who speaks directly to truck drivers every week on his Sirius radio show.Quit the sweeping generalities about groups of people.You score a lot more brownie points for your side if you do.Restraint is a good thing at times.
