The economy is in the sh*tter, the country is being invaded and we are fighting a war on two fronts and there is enough work for Congress to work 24/7 but our senate has decided to end the limitations that protected those who choose to be gay in the military.
NOW it will get interesting.
This isn't going to invoke changes in quarters, showers or mess halls. What will likely happen will be a reinforced message that your beliefs and feelings no longer have any bearing on your job and you as a solider will have to watch what you say or do.
The real issue isn't even any so called gay rights issue, but rather applying the laws that were established long before any gay protection laws were passed, mainly the age discrimination laws that prevent anyone from joining the military and forcefully retire those who can still serve. If we are to beleive that these rights are to be applied equally, then it either has to be that age discrimination is taken more seriously than any gay rights or there is no reason to even worry about gay rights because no matter how you look at it, being gay is a choice, growing old will never be a choice.
The one thing that I just thought about is how would the enemy, that is the Muslims who hate American will treat a gay soldier if they are captured by a terrorist. You know some of them have a really deep seated hatred for that lifestyle, as much as they do for our country.
