It's really nothing new. Trucks in some areas have work this week but generally not. Since we haul mostly manufactured goods and components and this is the national goof off week for manufacturers, we'll all sit until monday or tuesday. It's been the same for the past 2 years in my "d" truck and this year in my Sprinter. Keep your chin up it's almost over.

Hi
If your new to this business its a good idea to keep track of these slow times.Knowing when its slow and when its busy allows you to manage your time better. An example is just before the holidays its typically busy as our customers are trying to reduce inventory to reduce thier taxes,so waiting untill this week to do an oil change or some household chore can make alot of difference in your bottem line.
Be available when the freights there,be at home when its not;is my motto.I find that this week is a great time to get back in touch with freinds and relatives.

I went on vacation with my family on Sunday 1/1/06. On Thursday 12/29/05 I received a $2400 load offer picking up 30 miles from my house (where I was at packing for the trip) and delivering on Monday 1/2/06. The dispatcher gasped when I turned it down.

If you want the best loads you have ever seen just plan a family vacation.

Also, if you want it to rain just have your truck washed.

Well, I just got to say that it stinks right now for me! I have had one run in 2 weeks.
Just a little background: I am not in the truck right now because of a family sickness. My newphew is running the truck as a single. He had been running really good. Then all of the sudden about a month before the holidays the deadhead miles started (with now pay for them) never a fuel surcharge!!!
In the one run that he has had this week (wed.) he ran 200 mile deadhead to pickup the load, ran it 596 miles, dropped it. Stayed there that night thru Friday, then they ask him to move 100 miles Friday morning to a better freight lane. The load paid $785.00. As of today, he is still sitting.
We have a contract with a company that is terrible. They have 3 dispatchers. I don't think they have a clue on how to find freight. I have made a hugh mistake siging on with these guys. They are the pits. I can't wait till I can get back on the truck and move to another company, that at the least, knows how to find freight.

On that note of finding freight....how do most companies find of get their freight. Alot of companies that I have talked to say the work with Alliances. So I am guessing that they are getting the left over freight that others cannot fill.

Sorry about the rambleing.....just a little frustrated today.

Hi to all its not that they don't know how to find freight it's because freight is slow for next couple of weeks!!! switching to a new company this time of year is really not a smart move as it will just cost more than it is worth .:D

Last year, from Dec 26 to Dec 31, we completed five runs and earned over $6,900 (gross to the truck, D-unit, team operation). This year was not as good; three runs, $3,360 gross to the truck. Nevertheless, we believe the week after Christmas is a prime money-making opportunity since so many other trucks are home for the holidays. We'll be in service and ready to roll December 26, 2006.

Exactly! Just after we started heading home for Christmas this year, we turned down a $5,000 run that would have kept us from our planned time home. Your truck wash comment seems to hold true too.

The Alliance does on occassion have decent loads but it is a dumping ground for loads that their members can't cover.
It would be expected that they will keep the most profitable for themselves.
