D.O.T. Inspection Question

I work for an expediting company, I am based and live in michigan. I drive a Ford E 350 cargo van. I am wondering if i need a yearly dot mechanical inspection. I have not seen many stickers on cargo vans.

Most companies require an yearly inspection , some even require inspections more often.

My company says that it is not required by regulation. Many companies still want it done, I would assume to look good for the insurance company.

It is a bit vague in area's, but discussing this fine line with MDOT at 2:00AM. I think you would lose.

It does appear that most companies in Michigan are required to have a safty program that ensures, safety and vehicle inspections are complied with yearly. This information was gathered from Michigan Website. I believe page 22.

The way I read 396.17[a] of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations.
"Every commercial motor vehicle shall be inspected as required by this section."
