Cuba, Trade or no Trade?

I read this morning that a bunch of governors and farm associations have been in talks with Cuba to sell American food to them.

I am wondering is it really time we put the pressure on cuba by allowing tourism to start back up and causing the population to wake up?

I don't get this Cuba deal..Is it because of thier politics?

I mean the U.S. does billions of dollars in trade with RED China whats the dif???

This has to do with the stupid idea that if we cut off all trade with Cuba, they will become a democracy. They prove otherwise and haven't fallen yet. I srongly feel that we should start moving toward opening up trade and tourism to leverage the desire of the population to live a little more free.

I think that the skewed thinking by the JFK administration was promoted by the self-exiled Cubans who lost their property by Castro (and still trying to sue Cuba over it) as a hope that when a change in government takes place, the self-exiled Cubans will get their land back - which I think is wrong after 48 years.

As a Canadian, it seems that you have the advantage. You can actually go there.

I agree the more exposure of the common person to democracy the better thru tourism and trade more exposure to western ways...to isolate them teaches nothing but spite...good way to make enemies and not friends...

The Cuban embargo was just another one of JFK's blunders - all it accomplished was to solidify Castro's position and isolate the general population from the American way of life. The amazing thing is that our congress has allowed this nonsensical policy to stay in place for this long.

Actually congress in their great wisdom codified the policy in 92. one of the stupidist moves in foreign policy in years.
