Well OVM, and Roba it seems to me that some people are either afraid of Canada (which is a good thing for us who like going there) or too lazy to follow just some basic rules and regulations. I am not saying her husband falls into these categories but I know a lot who do.
I know from watching others, they are in such a big hurry to get moving, why? If you pick up near the border, well you build in that 2 hour processing time into the run and read it all at the shipper, stick the pars sticker on it and make copies. Then have them fax it.
If you are a few hundred miles away, you still have a lot of time, slow down at the shipper, take your time and read the paper work.
If they rush you (it has happened to me a few times), I tell them it is my ass on the border, not theirs and if the paper work is not right, it will be taken off my truck and someone else will pick it up tomorrow. I can't afford the fines, nor can I afford the hassle with customs, it is their responsiblity to make sure that their paper work is right when it is handed to me. If I am not satisfied, well lets get it corrected.
As Rob pointed out there needs to be basic information on the paper work, nothing else.
Livingston is a pain in the a** but again, if it has not cleared or they can't tell me anything straight, I go over the border and park at the compound then walk to Livingston. It seems that they move a little faster when you are there, and I only had one time where they never received the paper worked so they took mine and processed it - a whole 3 minutes at the computer, another minute to write down the confirmation number and I walked back and saw the nice Canadian customs people to get my stamp and my number to get out of the compound. Oh boy it beats sitting on the Detroit side getting ready to dodge bullets.
Oh if you think Livingston is a pain, I had more problems with UPS and loads form France and Japan than any other broker. I think they take the prize for dragging their butt on things.
