"Could you move your truck so I can park?"

ROFL Been hit twice, first time was a Werner driver that was in training. He wasn't backing, he was trying to pull out, turned before he was clear and took off my mirror. Second time was backed into a dock at DSL when a DSL t/t decided to back into the same dock, unfortunately he forgot to wait until we vacated the spot. That was a wammer of a hit, pushed the grill all the way back into the front-end. lol Young guy, maybe 21 or 22. Poor guy was soooo upset. I felt sorry for him. He said we were the first straight truck he saw there so he wasn't paying attention.

As for being asked to move, I don't think we have ever had anyone ask us to move so they could have our spot! Why that would be just rude! lol Have had some bob-tailers ask us if they could pull in behind or in front of us. Didn't see a problem with that as long as they didn't mind moving if we needed to leave. Always try to be considerate of others trying to find parking and will help if we can. :)

I have been asked to help someone park and I refuse. It is not because I don't want to but if something happens, I don't want to be responsible - like if the guy puts it into reverse instead of first, seen it happen a couple times.

The other half of that is I never ask someone to help me back up, but I have had a couple people help me when I had to back out of a place.

We've been hit one time. It was only a few months after we had started driving, right before Christmas and a Conway T/T was backing into the spot next to us. He hit the sleeper with the back corner of his trailer and put a nice hole in the side of the sleeper. I thought it was going to tip the truck over and scared the heck out of me. After he hit us, he pulled forward and was going to back in again. Hubby went and jumped up on his step and knocked on his window and told the guy he needed to stop and come look at what he had done to our truck. The dummy didn't even know he had hit us.

Hubby called the police to make a report and I went out to take pictures of the damage. The driver came up to me laughing and said "Did I scare you?" DUH!! I just continued to take the pictures and got back in the truck. Thank god for duct tape and a trash bag. We were able to patch up the hole (about 8 inches long and 4 inches high) and keep snow and moisture out until the truck owner could arrange to get it fixed. It took a few months before all the insurance stuff was straightened out and we lost almost 2 weeks of driving time while it was being repaired. What a nightmare.

One time I was sound asleep and was awakened by a "newbie". He told me he was having trouble backing his truck in the spot and offered me $20 to do it for him. Feeling sorry for him I obliged and backed the truck in the first try. The guy was extremely grateful. I gave him his $20 back. He said "Why? That was the deal" I said "I know but I didn't realize you didn't have a trailer on it....have a good day"!!!

Never been asked to move my truck, but I was asked by a security guard in laredo if I would pull a T/T out of the way for him. He had been watching two Mexican drivers (American drivers that did not speak english)try to get their truck lined up to get out the gate for about 30min.,said he was afraid they were going to run over his shack. They were at the first door nearest the gate and rather than to turn to the back of the lot to get turned to line up with the gate they tried to make the turn out the gate right from the dock, not going to happen. After approaching there truck and realizing they did not speak english and the guy behind the wheel was actually one of the warehouse employees I had to point at the steering wheel then myself, point at him and then the ground and we met on the same page. I was able to get the truck unjacked and took it to the back of the lot and aimed it straight for the gate, the security guard went in and said something in spanish and two tow motors had me unloaded in seconds.OH,I was in the same door they were and even in a straight truck had to go to the back of the lot to get turned to go out the gate.

Do you just pull in and park or do you go in and look for a manager and get permission/note from manager? I have heard some parking lots are posted no truck parking but I have never seen a sign at any Wallys. (just a sign locally that says dont park vehicles for sale on the back row)

I just pull into WalMart and park - near the outside of the lot, of course. Some have signs, some have security driving around - they're all different, and you just play it by ear.
PS If you park in the middle of a flock of RVs that are all parked at right angles to the painted lines, be aware that those guys leave REAL early - if you sleep late, you'll look [and feel] like quite the doofus, sitting there all alone, lol. :D

I stopped for the night, I don't even remember and when I got up in the morning, I had problems crossing the parking lot because of all the traffic turning around.

I didn't snap the picture until I got back tot he truck, there was a lot more damage than what appears to be.

I had try to hit me last Monday at Bill's Truckstop near Lexington, NC. Being in an S/T, I like to back it a bit more, so my steers are about even with any adjoining tractor tandems. It's just less noise that way, and it allows a little more room to a trailer backing next to me w/o getting clipped. Does it help? Not always! This poor Swifty couldn't back his way out of a wet paper bag. Had to hit the horn TWICE! The sad thing was that there were two more empties on the other side of the space he coveted.

When we do have to park at a Wally World (usually because its the closest thing the early AM drop off, or there are NO Truck stops within decent range), we park on the side of the building near the dock or auto shop. We stay away from the RV's - they tend to be quite amusing (dangerous) when manuvering their rolling houses...
As far as "signs", we see them. We often stop there to buy provisons/supplies and have the reciept handy to show that we have patronized their store.
Once we had a Barney (rent-a-guard) get all huffy and say we had to move even though we had spent nearly $80 on stuff. We asked if there was a local law saying we had to, answer was "no". He was just trying puff himself up. So we walked back into the store, found the manager and asked what their parking policy was...he said as longasyou don't trash the place and stay around the edges it was OK. We informed him of rent-a-guard's problem. He said he would "take care of it".
The guy later steered clear of our truck as he made his rounds. LOL

We have also had our run-ins with Barney at a few locations, and like you after a trip inside to talk to the manager Barney is usually put back to just doing his job and not improvising.:D

I'll be honest I asked someone to move just a couple days back. You know those shallow parking spots only about 40-45 feet deep? There was one of those open and that was it. There was a guy in a spot next to it in a straight truck and he was sitting in the driver's seat. I nicely asked him if he could move over there and let me get the full spot he was in since I couldn't fit in the only one that was open. I told him I was out of hours and really tired, and he gladly moved over. We talked for a moment afterwards over a cup of coffee I had brewing. If there had been other places open that I could have fit into I wouldn't have bothered him.

Good story Joe!! SEE, there are people out there that have learned to "cooperate and graduate", unlike some of the whiners on this thread. It may supprise many, someday, to figgure out, that the world really don't "revolve" round their toy truck, or them for that matter.
