Could mean less Caterpillar loads in couple of months

after growing up in big yellows back yard i have learned that.3 different cat employees will tell you three different things about the "new" corporate change coming down.and allot of the time it's not 3 different people from three different plants or offices it's like they have a desk within 20 feet of each other

in other word cat leads the corporate field of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing

also goes to show these rookies here that with all this partnering...the need or perceived need to be with a certain BIG carrier is near unwarranted...since every carrier has access to these loads...You could be with a TWO HORSE operation and still have the same loads opportunities...

Let me just say, that if you ARE with a small carrier and all they can do is get you outboard work from a Metro area and then they just want you to deadhead back to that SAME metro area, they are just lazy about loading you. They are also the minority out there. There are LOTS of opportunities for loading a truck and making money out there.

FedEx will have to go to their "special place" because there is no one company that could handle all of Caterpillar's transportation requirements. Do you have any idea how large Caterpillar is?

Just the OD stuff alone is handled by several specialized carriers. Next time you are at a Cat facility look at the trailer lot or at a dock and note all the different trucking companies hauling for Cat.

I would be surprised if they even turned all of their expedite over to one carrier. Maybe they are going to a 3PL to handle expedite loads.

Now Moot there are a couple..... think moot... think....

Well you guys ALMOST got a big boost 2 years ago...The DHS WAS going to stop all cargo from a foriegn coumtry on a US commercial airliner...That would mean no more taking it from Canada to Detroit or Buffalo or Burlington VT....

The 3 main players are...Bombadier, Pratt & Whitney and Rockwell....ALL distribute their emergency stuff from Canada...Well....it took only 2 weeks and an emergency meeting with company officials and DHS in Chicago...the rule was nullified....boy the speed it was incredible for a gov agency!!

I suppose the fact they do a lot of US military was the factor...

So maybe some Fedexers can tell me: Didn't TQL take possession of your lovely Ryder/LG account?

The Feds have taken a hit lately...that and Phizer(sp) moving from Reno to Memphis and using truckload mostly..

There seems a lag in the top right corner...Officially diesel price is $4.509 national average this week....
A drop of about .22 in 2 weeks....

Pfizer?

I talked to a supply chain driver just a little bit ago and they are still running Pfizer, but the Pfizer people tell me they are dumping FedEx, too many trucks disappeared, got to hand it to Kindler. Contractions are a b*tch.

Greg, I'm thinking and taxing my little brain. Can't come up with a single carrier that could handle all of Caterpillar's diverse transportation needs. A 3PL yes, but no single carrier.

when i was at cnh we had 3 dozen od carriers who brokered to anyone who was nearby to move a tractor, combine or earthmover. we also had about 40 van carriers for the "indoor" parts.

then there were the 6 expedite carriers for the 80 loads a week.

sometimes that wasn't enough at the end of the 1/4.

I've done quite a few Cat loads in the last month: some from Panther, some from Express-1, and a couple from FedEx. It seems that the partners are picking up a lot of the slack.

Then if the CC gets the load I presume they will put the 3pl loads on the GPS network where the alliance partners are.

I think what Moot is saying is that Cat does a whole lot of shipping, some of which is heavy haul, expedite, LTL, truckload, and all sorts of specialized stuff. Very diversified carriers involved.

Thanks Jeff! That's what I was trying to say. Add to that list companies like G & D that handle inter-plant moves, yard hosteling and cross dock consolidation and distribution. Even if there was a single company that could handle all of Caterpillar's transportation needs, I don't think Cat would want to crawl in the sack with them.

So MR. Moot are you saying it's a bad thing to crawl into the sack with someone that can handle all of your needs???:D

I spoke to the person that calls all the loads that come out of CAT. I was told that Tri-State and Nations Express are there number one carriers to haul thier loads for this year. If none of these carriers have a unit available then they broker the load to some other carrier. I mostly run CAT loads coming out of the Peoria area. There are about 15 loads that CAT calls a day out of Peoria, all going to Fountain Inn, SC, Griffin, GA, Danville, KY and Dyersburg, TN.
