After someone mentioned a few days ago of starting a thread on cost cutting I started looking hard at what I can do and came to realize there isn't much left to cut that I haven't been cutting since I started doing this.I did come to the conclusion that no matter what,, I have to stop buying a fresh loaf on bread on Fridays.. I have to start my work week with fresh bread and by the end of the week if not consumed I pitch it and buy another..I have nothing else to cut back on. So its stale bread for me I guess..
Well short of stealing ink pens from the shipping dept.
Biggest thing I can honestly think of is to stop going places that require a d/head out..Fairly easy to do for those of us running auto freight.. Not so easy for others that don't. When management steps up and says your better off just heading home that tells me why go there. I have lived by that anyways,,I don't relocate my truck to often to another parking lot just to wait it out..If they stop putting freight on the truck I'm heading for the house and will start back up fresh another day. When I'm not loaded I lose but so do they.
I'm fairly new to the Industry as most of ya know by now,,Why is it every shipper I talk to states the cost of shipping has sky rocketed,,Some ask how much are the trucks making on these loads?? And they don't believe it when I say less then 7 years ago. Why am I reading that freight volumes are up and shipping rates are up but we are still running for the same amount we ran for when I started in 07.. I know awhile back the front offices took hits and lost jobs,,lost work etc etc..But that has recovered for the most part..Alot of jobs have been filled again..Perks within company's are back on the rise but we still struggling with higher prices everywhere we turn..Doesnt seem like anything is coming back to the trucks and I'm getting the feeling we may be going backwards real soon once again.
