Well, we had our excitement for the day. A police car pulled up about a hundred feet away from us a bit ago and stopped. He sat there for about five minutes and then put his lights on.

A truck across the was started to move. The cop got out and put his hand on his gun and yelled at the trucker. The truck stopped. The cop told him to get out. The trucker seemed confused and said something then the cop drew down on the guy and had him get out and "assume the position" against the front of his tractor.

The cop frisked the guy, no rough stuff and never even cuffed him.
A second cop came, searched his cab and then they all left and went away.

I have NO idea in the world why this took place but at least we were not charged for the show! :p

Who said truck stop layovers were boring?

Maybe he didn't have his birth certificate on him? That is the latest and greatest in TN. You must carry an original birth certificate in your wallet. Mine is huge so its folded like 10 times.

You can imagine my surprise when we were stopped for inspection and asked for my birth certificate? I don't even look foriegn. Ha ha.

Birth certificate? There is NO way in heck that I am going to carry a copy of my birth certificate. Who's rule is that? I would LOVE to see a court case over that one. Birth certificate my hind end.

I don't think it was that though. The cop pulled his gun while he was 50 feet away from the guy. I could not hear what either the cop or the driver said but I could see that the driver was confused and he made no move that I would take as a threat to the cop.

The driver looked to be about 60 or a bit older, snow white hair and beard, a "willie bandana" and "john lennon" sun glasses. A "retired" hippie!!

It all deescalated quickly, the driver was never cuffed and both cops and the truck left after about 10 minutes.

Oh yes, there has been an ongoing man-hunt for several days for two escaped convicts in Jackson, Tennessee.

They killed a business Ohio man stealing his rental car leaving it a bloody mess.

It made us go home to search our property under armed surveillance from the police department. The good thing, the dogs in our neighborhood will eat them and our neighbors like to hunt...lol.

My biggest fear is that they jumped in a truck, taking on a trucker at the Pilot exit 85, or at the Exxon exit 83.

We are at the Kenly 95 Petro in NC. That is where this took place. The truck was parked for about an hour when the cops pulled in. They seemed to know what truck they were looking for. I have NO idea what went on but all left happy.

No, you are right that is a little far off but still scary stuff.

Be careful out there, the world is getting or is rough on us truck drivers.

Scary stuff is having the drug dog go nuts on your truck at the checkpoint north of Laredo. Talk about guns I almost soiled myself. Only after i was ordered out of the truck handcuffed searched and the truck searched to find out that they give the darn dog oreo cookies for a treat and i had a package of oreos in my side box. Darn dog just wanted a treat

Wow, how horrible, definitely a soil alert time . Reminds me of the time I took a wrong turn in the middle of the night looking for a shipper which turned out to be a private road going onto some military base. I knew something was very wrong when the guy at the checkpoint comes out with an automatic rifle drawn on me. Whoops, after I regained the ability to speak, I told him, I think I took a wrong turn. Luckily, he just got me turned around and back on my way, but will never forget that moment. Thinking back over all my OTR journeys I'm amazed that I ever got from point A to B before GPS. I remember the zillion maps I would have to carry, worked good during that time, but I sure don't miss being map dependent.

I got to watch an 'episode' at the border.... tractor trailor was coming thru, agents swarmed the truck, and were pulling his 2 passengers out of the sleeper... they had multiple border agents with guns looking like a swat team. Cut his lock on the trailor, and were searching the trailor! They waved me thru, and I scat!

The two Lousianna new occupants to Jackson TN convicts...caught!

After departing the stolen car (the Ohio Business man), running to a section of woods stayed hidden for 6 days...

Reppearing within 50 miles at a little state park in "Oakfield" Jackson Madison county, took seize of a truck owned by the park..tied up the two park rangers and drove to Memphis... about 90 miles.

Then finally gave themselves up in Memphis, TN after a chase.

Where do you find the requirement that we "must carry an original birth certificate"? Did you get a violation? If so, what code did you violate?
