Hello, I live in the Norwalk Ohio are and considering a career in expediting, I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice in where to look in my area for employment and any help you can give to a person like myself with no expierience in this type of work. Im looking to drive cargo or small straight truck for a company. Do I need a cdl / Hazmat? any good companies offering employment for driver only instead of owner operator. any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Im just a factory worker that is tired of of being laid off. Thanks.

A CDL with a Haz/Mat endorsement is a definite plus. Most of the expediting companies do not hire company drivers but there are individuals with multi trucks that employ their own drivers and have contractual agreements with the major Expedite companies.

I would suggest you read through the topics covered on this forum plus the General forum for the last 12 months to see if this is really what you want to do. To be successfull will require lots of days and weekends away from home. It is not unusal to receive a call at 2130 at night or on Saturday or Sunday that will require you to leave then. Expediting is considered the emergency ambulance of trucking and your personal agenda means nothing. In spiteof what you might read and think it is not a bed of roses. However hard dedicated performance can be financially rewarding.

Norwalk Ohio is a good location for Expediting Many of the Expedite Companies maintain lists of fleet owners that need and want to hire quality drivers. I would recommend you give Bolt Express 1-866-873-2658 a call. Ask for Anne or Mark in recruiting, they will take the time to answer your questions, tell you what you need and possibly hook you up with a fleet owner that needs a driver. Good luck.

Would love to answer any questions about expediting you might have. From one driver to another even though now I am in management, I am still very much a driver at heart..

Someone beat me to posting this ! I'm on the fence here too, wondering what to do. I have all of my info into Driver Solutions, my soon to be partner is hung up in Phoenix with Werner but hoping to get out fast! So far, I've called my book keeper, she said she can handle all of the paperwork involved. Looking at how to incorporate this business, always worked for a big company, they did the paperwork and gave me a check.

So, keep this post alive, I'm sure I'm not the only one here.

One thing you might consider is attending the truck show in Louisville this March. Talk to recruiters and as many drivers as you can get to sit still. When we started researching I kept a notebook for just this purpose. Each company will have a different personality and the trick is finding the right fit for you.

What Caffee said. And I might add, considering this as a "career" as you research it, stead of a job or work, is a LARGE step in the right direction.
