Considerations...

For those who drive a D unit or DR unit, considering your current truck, what would you do/ get different in a new truck?
Class 8 or Class 7?
Lift gate or not?maybe just a different style/ brand?
Larger fuel tanks?
More storage boxes?
2 axles or 3?
More or different driver amenities ( all the conveniences in the cab/ sleeper)?
Different engine or transmission?
Different gear ratios?
Different body( box)?
Other changes from your current truck?

I'll get the ball rolling...
Currently FL70 48" sleeper Caterpillar Allison

Cascadia DD13 Allison
Lots of storage
22' or 24' box
Still debating lift gate

A lot would depend on your carrier and the options available to you.

Obviously, but then again, there are a lot of personal preferences too.
I was thinking... buying a new truck, what would want different from your current truck?

For me, larger living quarters, better fuel mileage and longevity/ durability would be my top 3

A lot would depend on whether or not I have to pay for it! I don't like the idea of truck payments right now.

A manual shift transmission. I like automatics in cars. Point and go.

But in a truck I prefer to make the call about what gear I should be in.

Western Star or Cascadia or Volvo
DD13 with DT12 or eaton autoshift for the daimlers. D13 with I-shift with the volvo. I'll only buy a class 8.

Liftgate/ thermo king reefer

I'm happy with my 200 gallons of fuel

Twin screw or at minimum lift axle

I have 2 big toolboxes on my truck. I could get away with one and save the weight.

96" min sleeper. Ari, bolt, maybe AA.

My box company is out of business so I'll be changing that! Kidron maybe a Morgan

Heavily debating generator/APU options

Wouldn't buy a class 8 with an allison. Although allison makes a very good transmission it's not a good buy for a otr truck. It will kill your fuel economy, kill it. You'd have a cascadia that gets 8-9 mpg when you could have one that gets 10-12 with an eaton or the new Detroit tranny.

In all fairness I'm buying trucks for a fleet, not necessarily looking for the same thing an o/o would look at. Example I'm considering a carrier or tk APU in a fully custom sleeper. Most o/o's would go with an onan and a roof air.

I've had an Allison in this truck ( FL70) for a long time. Way back when I first bought it, I was getting 11 mpg. Now, not so much.

Coronado with lift axle, 22' reefer box, lift gate, 96" bolt sleeper, storage boxes, stick shift transmission, and of course an apu. That's what I would do as a team but as long as I'm solo I won't build a truck.

I'm not building one at the moment either. But I know what I some of things I will do different on the next truck I build. At some point in the near future I will need to, trucks don't last forever.

Dry box eh? Could you pm me and let me know why y'all chose dry box and are sticking with it? I'm not being sarcastic. We are buying trucks and I might be over looking something but I thought t-Val was a good option.
