Yea they been around for 60 years but not self contained with its own pump.

Regardless with all the crying and moaning about showers and truck stops not giving them away for 10 gallons of gas, it is a good alternative.

In a sprinter, it's possible, in a straight truck for sure but a CV may be a bit of an issue but heard it is possible too.

Used one like it for a while and it worked great. going to get another one soon. Didn't have to deal with any of the BS, especially the problems with what is in the shower that they don't clean. If it was wintertime, I'd fired up the reefer to 70 in the box and took a shower. Summer, it was just as good with the reefer set at 80.

A "Y" membership and even a "Universal Gym Membership" are both accepted all over the countty and both alternatives to T/S's and Hotel/Motel's for showers....

Depending on location we shower:

At home in Minnesota

At our vacation home in Florida

At friends' houses here and there

At relatives' houses here and there

At truck dealerships that have showers

At RV parks we stay at while laid over

At truck stops

At hotels (rare)

At public beaches where showers are available

At service plazas on the Ohio Turnpike

In the truck (sleeper has a shower built in)

And yes, there are truck stop showers that rival those in four-star hotels. Just because you have not seen them does not mean it is not true.

Congratulations back to you as you also answer what Ziegler refers to as the high calling of your daily work.

Explanation, why do you shower at truck stops if your sleeper has a shower built in?

We don't have to clean a truck stop shower or launder the towels when we are done. The RV-style shower in the truck provides a good shower but requires service. The water supply must be replenished. The walls and floor must be dried. At a truck stop, it's shower and go. Also, in the truck the shower is not the same as we have only 40 gallons of water on board. At at a truck stop, if we want to spend a few extra minutes in the shower, its OK.

We seldom use the shower in the truck for those reasons, but I can tell you, when there is no other option and a shower is needed, we are darn glad to have it.

Some ppl just have it way way to good out here:D
Access to clean water should never be a issue out here to a least clean your self up a bit out here, Im sure many of us remember taking a bath out of a steel pot for weeks at a time. When it gets that bad any hose or sink will do the job till ya can get to a private shower.

Please dont tell me some of you folks are using public bath towels
other then for a floor mat:(
Don't ya realize where they been:D

That drive as expedite, over the road, in a van, straight truck or on 18 wheels. It is amazing that you stay away from home for weeks at a time with your only access to a shower being a truck stop or an over priced hotel room. Simply amazing.
I/we could not do it.

That's not totally true. Yes for most if not all company and fleet drivers. No for those owner operators that are (like ourselves) fortunate enough to afford large sleeper trucks with on-board self contained shower facilities. The few inconvieniences (if they can even truely be considered that) of having one's own shower on-board are FAR out weighed by simply being able to shower in your own shower each day.

Have you ever truely wondered just how clean that truckstop towel you're about to wipe yourself with really is? And what kind of skin deseases did the person that used it before you possibly have?

Not only are these showers availible on custom T/T's like ours, but also C & D units with aftermarket sleepers and some vans.

I'm sorry but I must say those sound like weak reasons not to use your own shower IMOP.

1. Don't have to clean ...
2. Water supply...
3. Walls and floor...
4. 40 gallons...
5. Its shower and go...

After each use of our shower I have a spray cleaner that I use that cleans and disinfects the shower. Takes less than thirty seconds to apply. Is there any guarantee that the truckstop shower has been disinfected to insure your health? Having to wash our own washclothes and towels is simply one more load of laudry each week. Well worth the effort for the security of knowing where what we are cleaning ourselves with has been.

Replinishing the water supply is simple. I hook my in-line water filter and hose to the hose bib in the fuel island and fill while I'm fueling. Even if I'm filling from a quarter tank of water, I'm done before the truck is finished filling. Typical time to hook up, fill, and stow the equipment, less than ten minutes.

After applying the spray cleaner, we wipe the shower stall top to bottom including the shower curtain. Takes less than five minutes and can be done by the co-driver while traveling down the road. By doing this after each set of showers (she & I), the shower never needs a "cleaning" as it always is clean.

Although you have the same sleeper floor plan as we do, we must have a bigger water tank than you. If not, our water supply has always been more than adequate for both our showering needs with water left over in reserve. Even with us both having long hair to wash twice and creme rinse.

The time it takes to pack clean clothes, walk inside to the showers, get the shower key/receipt, shower, walk back to the truck, stow the dirty clothes and shower bag, well we have timed it ourselves. We can each shower seperately in our own shower and be dressed and ready to go quicker than the other.

Also, when we are ready or in need of showering after loading/unloading, we don't have to drive nasty sweaty to the nearest truckstop to shower. We can (and do) simply pull off to the side and out of the way at most every customer of ours and shower. As a courtesy we contain our wastewater and dump it off-site.

I understand that you and I think differently on a lot of issues and I respect that. But your reasoning here for not using your shower would not (and obviously does not) stop us from using our own shower for every shower we take. Just my opinion. I also understand that many cannot have this luxury that you and I have. I'm sure if they did, they would think more like we do as for reasons to use or not to use their own shower. In the three plus years we've owned this truck and while not at home, we have only used a shower other than our own less than half a dozen times each.

With the logic you have made public here Phil I must ask, do you only use your on-board toilet when there is "no other option" and you need to relieve yourselves? Afterall, it also requires service such as cleaning, replenishing the flush water tank, dumping the wastewater tank, adding chemical on a regular basis.

The only truely valid reason I could see for not using the shower in our truck would be: "we can't shower together cause the shower is only big enough for one at a time!" LOL

Arn't the sleepers shower for taking a shower after taking a truck stop shower ....?

the nice thing about a truck shower is that you can take a shower running down the road before jumping back on the driver seat .Beat the heck out of a coffee cup .
Dern i miss that Hino...
