Compared With Diesel

Think a gallon of diesel is expensive?
This makes one think and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz.$1.29---------$10.32 per gallon

Lipton Iced Tea 16 oz $1.19------$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz. $$1.59-------$10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz. $1.25--------$10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz. $ $3.15------$33.60 per gallon

Vicks Nyquil 6 oz. $ 8.35-------$178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismo 4 oz. $3.85--------$123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz. $1.39---------$25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $.0.99------ $84.66 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER

Evian Water 9 oz. $1.49---------$21.19 per gallon

$21.19 for Water and the buyers dont even knnnow the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive)

So the next time we are at the pumps be glad our trucks dont run on Water Scope or Whiteout,or god forbid Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

Just a little huimor to help ease the PAIN of our next trip to the pumps.

and prices just keep going up on everthing
back in the 70's would go snowmobling for the weekend and my half
would be gas up my truck and my dad's truck and 4 sleds and 20 gals of extra gas one can for each sled and all for 20.00 dollars and that was a big deal than now 20 dollars doesn't go as far as it did

I made mention in another post that this is exactly how I look at fuel prices. When looked at that way it is still cheap.

As for how long it takes to down a gallon of Pepto, over the last two months it has been a gallon a week. Very close to true statement. Very close. :)

I must be a dinosaur. How can you compare diesel fuel to scope, iced tea, snapple, etc.... The next time I put fuel in my truck or car, I'm going to ask for 1.5 oz. See how far it get's me. We make a CHOISE to buy the above products!!!! What CHOISE do we have when it comes to FUEL???? Like I said,I'm old fashoined, and proud of it. So sue me.

Yeah i have to agree as i have said in past when i have seen those type of comparisons. i dont need any of those items to help me support my family or to exist on. i know it's meant to be lighthearted but it's this type of thing that makes us forget we should be outraged by the cost of fuel. just as the oil companies "warn" for a month before they raise prices that the prices "could skyrocket" they give us time to tell ourselves it will and then what do you know they do!! then when there is enough grief they lower the price by a dime (after raising 20 cents) and we slowly but surely become numb to it and are actually greatfull if fuel is $1.99 gallon instead of screaming as to why it isnt $1.25 gallon especially since diesel which is the closest to "crude" oil and used to be the cheapest to buy is now above super unleaded gasoline!!! i think it's very sad since all of our lives revolve around that pump that it is "minimalized" be these ridiculous comparisons. :-(

sorry for the rant

Comparing the price of diesel to snapple is comparing apples to oranges. On the surface it sounds meaningful but logically it makes no sense.

Comparing fuel prices to various products is interesting to say the least. 20 tears ago we compared gasoline to the cost of a loaf of bread on the shelf, an extremely close relationship.
In 1978 gasoline prices were related to inflation. The prices were raised to slow the economy and control inflation. When uncle sam wanted to tax the prices by .50 cpg,the oil companies were given the task and uncle sam took a 10% excess profits tax.The government got what they needed, inflation was brought under control and the oil companies made billions in new found profits. What a deal..Ronny Reagan finally released the oil companies from the tax,my hero!!

I want to believe that the increase in gasoline prices are for the same reason today but my problem is that increasing diesel prices is extremely inflationary due to the costs are passed on to the consumer which causes serious increases to goods and services. You might say the consumer is getting a double whammy.I,for one, cannnot believe that this action can be good for the economy today or for the long haul.

I've been watching these things go on for many years. The fed reports inflation increases and Greenspan (who I believed in for a long time)
makes the decision about what the future inflation numbers might be and what action to take.He has gotten in bed with the present administration( not a prudent move) and now reports the inflation numbers except for oil prices..What a guy.. Diesel prices will continue upward so long as it is billable or until the economy breaks from the stress..And thats the good news people..

Diesel will continue to go up as long as world wide demand for oil products continue to rise. As the economies of countries such as India and China continue to grow expenantially their energy demands will also grow significantly. Consequently, the laws of supply and demand will dictate a rise in fuel costs.
As Americans the only course of action we can take to counter the rise in fuel costs would be to lower our demand on oil based energy supplies. We need to conserve oil consuption and increase technology and prodution of alternate energy supplies.

Marty,
From what I have read (Bloomburg letter) the demand for oil in India and China has become very significant. So significant,in fact, that the demand in the USA is now reduced to 60% v 80% just a few years ago.Based on these numbers the usage in the USA really wont have much to do with controling prices in the future.
My belief is that diesel will settle around $1.89 to $1.95. Gasoline at $2.05 +or- a couple cents. Wishful thinking ?? I hope not.Bread is now at $2.09 at the shelf on the high side..Just in case history prevails..
