So what's puzzling to me is being accused of being a liberal/fascist and supporting the government while wanting to eliminate the institution of child abuse - better known as public schools.

The system is flawed and teachers, administrators and politicians alike lie about the improvements of the school systems and how we are able to compete with the rest of the world.

The fact that public school accounts for almost all the failures we have as a society when we compete for jobs, we seem to want to believe that the test score improvements have happened because we have thrown more money to the problem while protecting those who should be strictly accountable to us, the public but it is no where close tot he truth.

The other fact is a student graduating in 1950 is better equipped for today's real world than one who has graduated this year. The 1950 student has a solid foundation on the fundamentals to create a solution and it didn't matter how they got there while todays student is taught not about the fundamentals or finding a solution but what technique is used to find a solution. The 1950 student can compete with the student in India, France and Germany while todays student can't even approach them.

The expenditure for that 1950 student was $956 per student with a teachers salary averaging $4500 in the Detroit public school system with a graduation rate higher than those of the 'burbs today - source Detroit school board report, 1951. Today they spend $13,000 with an average teacher's salary at $76,000 and a very low graduation rate - this is also in the 'burbs and worst in other major cities.

I say get rid of the public school system, bring in private companies to run them for $10k per student and let's see if things will improve.

Considering the daily accounts of parents who aren't fit to raise goldfish, you guys think turning education over solely to parents is a good idea?
Contrary to Mr Shooter's assertions, parents already have too much control over some things - I recall schools being forced to remove books [including Huckleberry Finn and Harry Potter] from libraries when a few parents objected to the content.

If one was brought up on the farm, the birds and bee program gets started real early, I mean gosh batman, u would be seeing cattle and horses doing it in the fields and one would get the bird and bee class at any age, its a moot point in a country settings. Its all so stupid, duh.

Yes why not. If the parents are too lazy to get involved, screw them.

Actually not true, books are something that is a giveaway to distract the parents. They have no control of the schools, the teachers or what is taught.
