Commdata Card?

Do any of you use this thing or do you just get your money direct deposited into your checking and use your debit card? Are there any advantages to using it? Thanks

It's useful because most carriers will allow you to have load pay advanced and loaded onto the Comdata card. Thus, you can have a percentage of your load pay immediately rather than one or two weeks down the road. TA and Loves provide fuel discounts for Con Way Now trucks if you use Comdata (around 5 cents/gallon at TA and 2 cents/gallon at Loves). I don't know about other carriers. If your carrier takes care of your fuel tax reporting, it is not usually necessary to send fuel receipts to your carrier for fuel purchases made using your Comdata card.

There are other benefits to using the card. Look in the manual your carrier gave you and they are explained.

Comdata charges for everything related to the card. Because of that I use it as little as possible. We also get a fuel discount at TA, Pilot, Love's and Petro so I always leave enough money on it to fill the truck once if needed. I only fill at one of those places if I have to.

Primarily I fuel at FJ using a Conoco Mastercard that gives me 3% rebate on fuel. That's about 7 or more cents per gallon compared to the 4 cents per gallon cash discount. I also have an account with Tab Bank at FJ. Using that debit card gets me the cash discount if the particular location isn't Conoco branded.

About once a month I transfer money from Comdata to the FJ bank, enough for about 4 fills at cash price. About once or maybe twice a month I transfer all except the 1 fill worth from the Comdata to my primary checking account. That keeps my Comdata expenses down to only about $6 a month and gives me the flexibility to get the best pricing on fuel no matter where I am.

If I had the choice I'd skip the Comdata all together and have direct deposit into my personal checking. That's not an option though with most companies. I believe it's like QC. They are making more money off every contractor in the fleet. In this case it isn't like QC where they charge every truck $35 a week and have to pay QC more like $20 a week but I believe they get a kickback from Comdata for every transaction fee Comdata charges. I could be wrong on both counts but that's what I believe is going on.

With FEDEXCC they charge $1.55 to load the card, then you get 3 hits off of that load, after that Comdata charges $1.00per tranaction. I ususally get 2 fillups then write a ComCheck to my company for the balance.
When you buy fuel at a Pilot using your Comcard you get .05 cents per gallon rebated back to you monthly. Also Loves,Wilco AmBest give discounts using your Comcard.

I noticed that Leo said he wished Panther had direct deposit. FEDEXCC has weekly settelments by Direct Deposit directly into your checking account.

big d since i think you are a conway pbo use the comdata card. we obviously have a little better deal than p2 or fxcc but ofcourse you cant fuel at fj with it. we are only charged .50 a transaction by comdata and get .02 off at all loves cash price at pilot and a minimum of .03 off at t/a. we also have a cash plus option at t/a that at quite a few locations will save you quite a bit of money off pump price. for example at the madison, ga loc. pump price was 2.75/9 and w/cash plus pricing i payed 2.42/7 thats a 33.2 cent savings. way cheaper than even the fj, plus we also get savings from all the am best locations. get the fuel program book from conway and look at it. i did the credit/debit thing and even paid cash but in the long run w/atm fees getting so high and credit card surcharges getting up to .04-.06 cents a gal we can use comdata and our monthly fees still are not as much as using credit/debit. if you choose to fuel at fj though they do have good savings in place if you use their network of cards. conway can issue 2 comdata cards, one for adv. and one for direct deposit [ ldb are you at p2, when i was w/them they had direct deposit ] i believe conway might be able to dd in fj bank account.

Just for clarification, FEDEXCC will not provide direct deposit into Leo's account. Sorry Leo!

Actually I was going to advise Leo a method to have Terry's checks , direct deposited into Leo's account, but then I figured Leo wouldn't see the difference.
