COE vs Conventional Cab

We used to have a couple of KW100's and they were good trucks. I would be interested in the Arogosy, but just if I was doing solos or was to drive it myself. Teams today want a larger sleeper and that doesn't work with a cabover. There is room.....just not enough room.

Moot, a condo is way overkill for a single for room. Weight is a concideration but negligable. Myself all I need is a bit o room.

I know.....might be the wrong answer, but it is where common sense runs into reality.

It's where 70" runs into 96"+. People automatically think they need 96 or more, when a 70" wide open would work. I'm thinking of my 70 compared to the 84" Alumidunk cave I recently left. There's no comparison. But you're right, Dave... the illusion that the magical # of 96 has permeated the minds of those who think they need a barn on wheels.

I think the difference is a single needs much less room, and nowadays, couples want much more. With the waiting expediting entails, wives are not willing to share a 60-70 inch sleeper. They want a potty, stove, sink etc.. and if it can be provided, why not?

As any man who's been married a while will admit.. 'If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy'... in other words..'Happy Wife.. Happy Life'

Dave,

You don't have the wrong answer, you have the currently widely held as reasonable answer. As mentioned, folks who are going to live in these trucks for extended periods want more. There are those few who could say that's the wrong answer for them but have to realize just because something works for one doesn't make it universal. One could conceivably have ICT or one of the others redo the interior of the largest Argosy condo with a 48" dine-a-bunk, cabinets all around the top, cabinet with a sink and small counter area etc. and turn it into an extremely nice unit that might work even for a team, especially if they put aftermarket swivel seats up front so they could be turned to add to the illusion of space in the sleeper. It definitely would offer the most options for cargo boxes and excellent maneuverability but it's only a 70" sleeper and now days that's old stuff kind of like crank starters on cars.

That really is the issue. Not alot of teams will have an interest in a 70 inch sleeper. Just have to change with the times.

Not arguing with that, Dave. I'm pretty sure my nephew and his g/f won't want a Century after driving a Hino with a 96" mini rv, even tho they hate the Hino part. I might be able to talk them into a 110" Argosy tho. With a larger box, the prospect of more profit would most likely sway his g/f. She is more common sensical than most.

But Hawk, he understands the room a 110" offers, versus a 96" box.

Don't want to be a smart a** but a 110" cab has a 74" sleeper living space? right?

The last one I looked at was a 110" midroof and that had 74" living area - there is I think almost 18" or 20" from the window to the end of the dash then the seats take up more room.

Even though a condo would be like a cave, I want more room. The 52" plasma won't feel right unless there is more room. beside the surround sound effects won't sound that good in a small space. :*

A 110" coe can't be compared to a 96" Bentz or other sleeper. The coe has about a 70" condo sleeper and a cab just the same as a Columbia or Century condo. If one is going to call that a 110" "sleeper" then one would have to call the other truck's sleepers 110" as well and the truck with the 96" Bentz is really a 136" sleeper.

Nobody called it a 110" sleeper. But as a condo, the cab is part of the sleeper, per se. Col has his set up with a captain's chair, so you can watch tv from the driver's seat. Might not be the 96" bunk, but at least there's no cave. Some creative organizing, and you have something that closely resembles a 96".

My point is the same condo on a conventional hood truck with a 96" sleeper would then be called a 136". The vast majority of people, when you mention sleeper length, are going to think of the area behind the seats regardless of whether those seats swivel, recline or vibrate and regardless of how cut out the overhead is. Based on the common thought process a COE would be a 70" sleeper. That's definitely better than the 48" flat top doghouses some trucks have but a little small for a couple wanting to stay out for weeks and weeks at a time. There are definite advantages to the cabover as far as maneuverability and load length capability. Sleeper space just isn't one of them.
