Church Services

I appologise I looked and could not find the correct board to post under.

I guess this a odd question. I was baptised two months after 9/11 at age 52 and joined the church. I guess I was the oldest to be baptised since all the others were 10 -15.

Anyway I want to attend church but I am out of town most of the time. Any suggestions.

Sorry to anyone who may feel uneasy about this question.

There are a number of truckstop locations that have a chapel on the property and hold services. If you are looking for services of a particular group such as Baptists or Catholics etc. you might talk to your home congregation to see if there is a national directory of locations. Another option would be to use something like yellowpages.com or anywho.com on a Saturday night to look for the address of the church you want to attend Sunday. Once you locate and visit them you might start to build your own directory so when you return to a certain locale you'll already know where you want to go. Good luck.

One of the neat things about straight trucks, C units and vans is that if you see a church you'd like to attend, you can probably park there. I would be uncomfortable taking a tractor trailer on a church search, since lots of churches aren't located near interstates.

As for the question, I think anyone who has spent any time on the road would agree that it can be lonely and one of the nice things about attending church is the feeling of community you have with other churchgoers.

As far as truckstop ministries, those folks are doing good work. I was at the TA in Nashville one night and this grouchy guy was at the counter talking about how terrible everything is and I was just kind of nodding and trying to avoid controversy. While we were talking the truck stop chaplain walked through and thanked us both for being truck drivers and wished us a good evening. Just a nice fellow trying to spread some positive energy. Well, the grouchy guy told the chaplain that he thought that God was like a mean kid burning ants with a magnifying glass and we are the ants. The chaplain kind of tried to play it off and didn't really react, but I just felt so bad that the grouchy guy was such a jerk to a fellow really trying to make the world a little better place. I also kind of felt sorry for the idiot if he really felt the way he said (the ants comment), because that's a pretty miserable world to live in.

We find churches in unfamiliar areas by using Delorme mapping software. The yellow pages would work just as well. A phone call to the church generally yeilds a recorded message giving worship times. Parking a D-unit in or near the church parking lot is usually not a problem (available space), though the truck is a different sight for the regulars and heads do turn. If church members talk to us and connect us with the truck, they have always invited us back and made us feel welcome.

I check out biblebelievers.com when I am on the road. They have state and city listings for churches. If they have a phone number listed and you need a ride from the truck stop to church, most will gladly offer you a ride if you can give them some advance notice.

Just attended one of the best services in my life at Bible Believers Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. My spiritual batteries were running a little low and God directed my path to a place where I could hear what the Lord had for me. Amen! I can now go another mile for my Savior, because this life is all about HIM and nothing about me.

The new Garmin navigator will take you to any church in a local area, restaurant, hotel, shopping, fuel center, pub to watch the game plus telephone #s. Terry is the expert on the Garmin I had to resign my authority on the Megellin piece of junk compared to this tool. Advances in high tech equipment UNBELIEVABLE.

I can think of one truckstop off the top of my head that has Sunday church services.
The Ambest New Lisbon Indiana I-70 at exit 131. I know I have seen others but that's the only one I can think of for sure.

A great out-of-town service can be found at the Salvation Army centers. They are strict bible based services, yet non-denominational and everyone is welcome. A little research or a couple of phone calls can give you their service times. And most of the places have loading dock areas!

Good Luck in your journey.

A long time ago, I had to deal with this issue and took someone’s suggestion. If you have an open mind about church, you will never have a problem finding a place to worship. Simply put most if not all churches welcome anyone who want to worship with them. When we traveled in groups, we would pull in to the parking lot and ask if we can join them. Most of the time we got an invite to dine with member of the church after the services. Remember that you must understand and respect any church and its members.

Back before Interstates came along churches, especially in the carolinas and Virginia used to put up signs: TRUCKERS WELCOME--COME AS YOU ARE! When padded pews came along I guess the grease got hard to clean from the padding cause it was about the same time that the signs came down. Back then truckstops with shower facilities were very few and far between which made cleaning up for church services a hard thing to do.
I see nothing wrong with worshiping in your truck. My favorite prayer before each tour of duty behind the wheel: GOD BE MY HANDS IN THE WHEEL TODAY AND DO'NT LET ME HURT ANOTHER PERSON.

Yes, you can worship in your truck. I would ask that we consider what saith the scriptures. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;

I think the Lord is very clear that He wants us to worship with other Christians. Personally, I need the fellowship with like-minded believers and many have been the times that I was an encouragement to the local church at which I was visiting. I know that helping my fellow brethren in Christ brings honor and glory to my Savior; honor and glory that He rightfully deserves.

If possible, by the grace of God, I am always going to try and make it to a local New Testament Church when I am away from my home church.

If anyone is interested in growing, 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." you might want to visit our church's website.
