Has anyone ever used the stuff they sell in truck stops to repair a chipped windshield?
The one we have is a pea size.

Yes I have used it with success a few times. The most important things are to follow the directions and to make sure you have a chip that can be repaired.

Our insurance is through CIS. Does anyone know if a straight truck would be covered.

Not sure on your policy but a quick phone call to your agent should answer that.

As far the repair from safelite, I had one done better then 4 years ago and lasted this long..It appears it just starting to show back up..not getting bigger just visable again when the glass is clean.. If its on your dime I would say try the repair first..I think I paid in the ballpark of 100$ for them to come to the house??

safelite stands behind that repair for the life of the glass. i think it gets you a discount of what ever you paid for the repair towards a new piece of glass.

Correct
They do stand behind the repair as you said..But they will not try to do it over again. I called em when I first noticed it again..Just looking out it each day waiting for it to spider web..LOL

I don't think I've ever gone 4 years without replacing a windshield. After 4 years, if it wasn't cracked and chipped, it would be too pitted to see through.

Safelite just replaced the passenger side windshield on the Columbia I drive for $203 which included everything the new windshield, disposal, coming to the truck stop, and sales tax.

I've used one of those self-repair kits. It worked well enough, just follow the instructions.

Yep Im getting some of that also but not enough to replace it yet.
Wondering if the difference in service life is due to your carrier giving you real miles,,the vans sitt lower to the ground or ----> Your just plain tailgating to much, try backing off the salt shakers just a bit. :D

If I stay out of Montana in the winter my windshields tend to last a bit longer. They use a very coarse crushed rock, probably mine tailings.

Yep that would do it.
My kid runs a gravel pit and supplys MDOT with the sand..This past few years they have had them bump up the size of the fine gravel in it. Rocks and roads dont mix well.

According to CIS we have coverage. Chip repairs are free and windshield replacements are $100.

The repair kits dont work and worse yet a pro cant fix it afterwards. Most insurance companies require before replacement.

Hit the yellow pages and ask for a cash deal allot of places will do it for about 50 bucks if
get it to the shop

Reading and following the directions is important otherwise it won't work.

I have used the one they sell at Wal-Mart. I use a push pin to clean out the hole or chip. Then do the repair. Takes about 15 or 20 minutes. I have done three on this windsheild, holding up very well. You will need a sunny day.

I have used Wally World kits 3 or 4 times, worked pretty darn good. Must be sunny out.

My insurance deductable is $100 on windshields. I have to get one soon. A repair would cost between 85 and 95, those are quoted prices. No point in a repair.

Safelite repaired the chips yesterday. Took about 30 minutes and looks good to me.
Insurance paid for it. It cost nothing out of my pocket.
