Chevy Express Van

Help- all B-unit Chevy Van expediters:

I drive a 99 Chevy express van in the expedited freight
business. Have a problem-maybe some-one out there can help with.
At approx. 70,000 miles the van developed a vibration starting
at about 40 mph, smoothes out somewhat at about 60 mph. Then
picks up around 70 mph but not as bad.

Local dealer installed new tires, turned brake drums, installed
new rotors on front. Also installed a new driveshaft w/new
U-joints. Still have the same vibration at same speeds.

Have anyone had vibration in their van-If so what did you do
to remove the vibration ?????

Thanks
Any help appreciated

HacPro,

Welcome to EO!

Sorry to hear of your truck troubles. I think what you may have is a transmission problem, specifically a torque converter issue. They tend to vibrate at certain speeds. Is it getting worse over time?

Thanks for your reply- The problen seems to be gradually
getting a little worse. I have had almost all solutions offered by the dealer done- to no avail. You might be on the right track-will have
the torque converter checked. Will post on findings.

Thanks again- Hacpro

Had almost the same problem. Was universal joint, had all of them replaced and drive shaft checked and that solved the problem. Let us know when you find out.

Hacpro,
Might check the pinion bearing(s) in the rear-end. Happened to me (Ford E-350 diesel) at 300,000 miles. Yours sounds a little low mileage for that kind of problem but you have to check everything.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I had a 3/4 ton, 1988 Chevy van that developed a similar vibration. After replacing the u-joints, balancing tires, and etc., the problem turned out to be the "swing bearing". The swing bearing is mounted in a frame cross member and serves to connect the front and back sections of the drive shaft (or at least it did on the model I had).
