I just bought a 12' box van powered by a Duramax :woot:

Congratulations Hoser you found one! It would be nice if the Duramax came with a couple of cylinders lopped off. I think a V-6 version would offer plenty of torque and horse power for the needs of expediters. Where did you find the air deflector and how difficult are they to install?

I haven't found one yet. I'll wait until I pick up the truck Friday to confirm the size I need.

I'm guessing the DRW will add at least 150 pounds to the curb weight. So the net gain in weight capacity would be about 250 pounds over the standard 9600 GVWR. You would be gaining about 20" in width though. The extra width and 2 extra tires will reduce fuel mileage and increase maintenance costs. But if the freight you haul can offset these extra costs then go for it. It comes down to what you haul and who you haul it for.

Moot,
You are close, I have in my truck building notes 165 lbs more for the DRW option. I wish I could find the option weight list that they gave me, it broke down every option with component and total weight so I could list everything.

Yeah, I was guessing about 75 pounds apiece for a tire and wheel.

U gotta watch where u guys sprinkle "Miracle Grow", it aint funny, lol:D

Skyraider,

You were asking where you could get a 10k GVW cutaway? The DRW model for GM that was 10K has the letters GBH in the vin. The 12K GVW version will have GBJ in the vin number. Not sure if GM still makes the 10K. I know the 12K version is now a 12,000 GVW version.

You can still order the 10K dual cutaway but they don't advertise it. Also the typical VIN as you described was all changed in 2010 model year....I haven't figured out the method of identifying gvwr with the new number combos. Also I have even seen a few GDJ's in the 2007-2008 area that were marked as 10k on the sticker. They are very few and far between but I have seen more than one like that. I wish I had the picture's to prove it because they are very rare.

Cutaway chassis have a "incomplete" manufactures gvwr sticker on the door..be it 10k or 12,300...the final stage manufcturer (the body company) puts the complete gvwr door sticker n the body and they can rate the gvwr to anything they want..as long as it is either AT or below the listed weight on the "incomplete" sticker....

i have a gmc savana single rear tire #9600 12ft supreme hi cube with the nose cone, 6.0L with the bully dog economy tuner. i get a flat 15 mpg empty, hi 13 to low 14mpg while loaded. is that average?

second question, is the carge wall in the front really nessesary? from the wall to the back door is 12 ft exactly. if i take it out i gain some strapping space. should i cut it out so i can take the third pallet if needed?

those mileage #'s are what i get with my 09 6.0 and a 4spd od trans with the 4:10...doesn't look like the bully dog is doing much...sorry to say that as i was considering one...

As for the wall, the 1st thingi did when i got my Cargo Max home was take a sawzall to that wall...allllll gone!...here i a before and after:

PS:

I still have those doors and the roller system if anyone has a need for it..

1 - YES.

2 - it depends on how the box is constructed. Many have doors that open between the cab and box and others don't but some also use the wall as a reinforcement because the walls of the box are thinner to lighten the entire package.

the wall in my truck was placed back a few inches to allow for seat ajustments. i'm rather convinced that the wall must go completely. thank you.
