17 foot would not leave much in the way of cargo capacity weight wise that is, on top of the possible fact that is most likely would be over 10k limit meaning logging would be a must.

Not to mention you'll be lucky to get 10 to 11 MPG
Those cube vans are not economical

Depends on the truck, Penske rents/leases 16 foot cube vans with a 4300lbs cargo capacity, they are 12,300 GVWR though
The normal Penske rentals hold 2,300, I think the difference is due to a heavier frame.

If one wanted a brandnew cutaway cube truck, who makes one that would be under the 10k rule?

Actually anyone can build one for you but the problem is they make more money with the chassis from them than they do from you supplying the chassis.

The weight difference is partially the chassis and the box, If I remember right, every foot of a standard box adds something like 200lbs to the weight. The chassis difference is somewhat like 600lbs.

Probably unicell if you could get a single rear wheel, but would be limited to 12 feet I would think.

the aerocell cw-city wide-is 10 or 12 ft. met an e-1 driver with a 12 cw. his whole space was the sleeper. he bought it off the lot.

rev dave said you could get any lth you were not restricted to 12. his dualie was 13'. why not 13-14 ft srw? call'em.

I got a 2008 Chevy Express with a 12ft box, inside it's actually 150inches of cargo space. 9.5 ft tall, and it's as wide as the van itself, the problem with getting anything bigger is they start making them wider than the van and that's when you start losing alot on the mpg. I average 15mpg with a 4.8L it's dry weight is 6700lbs with me and full tank. I weigh 220lbs, so the van itself is about 6500lbs. I can haul 2900lbs. So if ur looking for a cube van, stay in the 12ft area, anything bigger and u will lose alot in ability to haul weight And mpg's. My box is made by supreme, but it seems they make most of the boxes I see out there. The 12 ft penske boxes, are not actually 12 ft, so if you're looking into those beware if u want to haul 3 skids. my brother in law bought one, and it's only 135 inches inside. Hope this helps alittle. My first post here by the way, been reading alot, but finally seen a post to respond to.

Yeah, Penske over estimates their box size
a 15 foot is actually 14 1/2
a 16 foot is actually 15 1/2
Not sure why they do that

Because that is how they sell the box size to the customer. It would be stupid to say we have a 14 and 3/8" size van or a 15 and 5/8" van. It's easier to just say 15 and 16 foot.
