cherry pickin now I think that dispatchers should stop cherry pickin, 2 1/2 years and maybe out of that time I have talked to dispatcher 10% of the time when my phone rings I go to my QC and say yes or no.
Was out side around my van and got a beep and acceapted load then a couple of mins later got a message that I was pulled off load because I did not answer my home phone, called my team leader but he will not be there till Monday.

SO GOOD-BY PANTHER U CHANGE THE RULES TO MUCH

AND YES THAT IS THE WHOLE STORY

so i'm still asking...would anyone have taken the loads i spoke of? after those 2 we were sent a hazmat, canadian load that p/u 160 miles away, w/ .12 fs at REDUCED rate of .77 cents!!! to which we wasted no time hitting the NOWAY button. apparently someone booked it for a van and being the type of hazmat, the van couldn't take it. before the noway msg even was in the air, they were calling about the load, re-sent it for our rate, etc, etc. good thing we were wide awake instead of being so thankful for a load over 96miles and hitting the Y immediately. anyway we worked it out satisfactorily and here we sit in ontario waiting for the ACE load sure to come...any of you done one of those yet. i'm sure the bugs will be worked out/we'll figure it out about that time it will change to something new...just when you think you got it "down pat"

I have a team that realizes when the wheels turn they are making money and when the wheels are stationary they aren't making anything. They run at about 90% acceptance. They take the 126 mile and 211 mile runs along with the high mileage runs. Instead of waiting on the high mileage run at zero income they make some money. When they deliver the piddly run they usually don't wait long on the next one and often have another job set up and on the qc waiting for them to deliver the current one. Their truck runs anywhere from 2500-4000 loaded miles a week.

I'm not saying take runs and I'm not saying decline runs. I'm just pointing out what my team has found, some miles are better than no miles and short runs are better than no runs. YMMV.

I'd have no problem taking an occasional mini. However, those you mentioned were a waste of time. The first one, as you said, took you farther out of the loop. That means more dh on top of that taking you to the load. The second one is wasting your whole day. I'd say you made the right call.

my stats with a sprinter
on time 100%
acceptance 100%
in service 94%
safety 100%
i tried this for a month. i was offered and accepted 22 loads in the month of december..after a month of my first and last 100% acceptance..i have found that yes the loads offered were way shorter..4 loads were over 300 miles... when you run a short load from home which i consider to be 100 miles. your deadhead far exceeds your mileage...45 mile deadhead for a 60 mile load...then of course your going to head home because who in there right mind would spend a cold night in a van when they can be home in a hour and a half...so i will go back to being more selective. and take the loads that are profitable...oh yaaa i am sitting in chattanooga, been here for 40 hours and no load yet and its 5:00 pm on a friday night..from 22 dec to 02 jan i was 2nd out of grand rapids mi and had no loads

in response...i agree short runs are better than none. i'd be more than happy to do them if i didn't have to wait all day to p/u, dh more than 50 miles for the 100 mile run, if i didn't have to wait 2 days to deliver said run and if it's going somewhere i can get a load out of instead of somewhere i have to dh 100 miles just to get to civilization and if we got another short one soon after we delivered . yes, we have taken the short ones, we don't wait for over 500 mile loads...cherry loads? we've done as many miles as the team you spoke of but not lately. i know there are ups and downs in expediting, things always get better...i just wish it would. i've been saying that for a while now. just seems like the only decent loads we've had lately are the one you have to jump through hoops with...either hazmat and nobody closer has it (which we were told we had to have...what happened to everyone else having it), or CSA/FAST etc. (which we were also told we had to have...i guess we were the exception...so many drivers don't have it). so they call us for these. i wonder sometimes if we get held in an area just cuz we may be the only ones in that area who can do hazmat/CSA/FAST. (do they do that?) maybe i should suck it up and just try taking every load offer and see how that works.
