My generator shuts down when it still has 1.5 gallons of fuel left. As soon as I fill it up, it's up and running as usual. Does anyone have an idea what's going on.
Thanks.

Probably a safety feature of some sort. Did you check your owners manual?

Is your gas cap venting. My thought is as it runs down on fuel it's creating a vacuum and preventing the gas from flowing. My weed eater used to do this. Try taking off the gas cap, put it back on without adding fuel and see if it will run.

What I like to do is eliminate as much as possible first.

The moment it shuts off, see if it still has spark. If it does, you can ignore the entire ignition system and move on to the fuel side.

Why am I even talking about spark? When the mags start to fail, they'll get sensitive to heat. A few minutes of not running is enough to cool off to run again.

This does sound kind of like a tank venting problem, but I have a diagnostic triage flowchart in my head that I don't like to deviate from.
