Chain Up Tool

There was a thread about chains not long ago and I ran across something called snap-on chains. Trouble is they only come in either 5 or 9 bar models. While watching that video again on youtube I spotted this tool that looks to make chain installation quite fast and easy for either singles or double chains and doesn't cost a lot.

The tool looks great. I also like the part where the driver is in his shirt sleves and working in the daylight under clear skies, in calm winds, on dry, level, paved ground. If the tool could assure me that I would only have to chain up in those conditions, it would be a bargain at twice the price.

Well heck Phil is that not how you chain? It is always dry and in daylight you put on your chains then you drive into the bad weather! How I wish...

Pelicn we must have bought our chains in a different place then you bought yours! Ours say open as needed and if the month is December think of Christmas and the jingling noise a harness and bells make on a horse or reindeer pulling a sleigh through the snow.

If you are not the one driving make some hot chocolate for each other to sip while driving slow and watching the scenery!

Truth be told, I honestly cannot say. With five winters under our belts, Diane and I have yet to chain up. The closest we came was a trip over Donner Pass where chains were required. We had time to spare and parked and went to sleep instead. When we woke up, chains were no longer required.

We finally took them out of the bag while we were home. Figured we'd pressed our luck long enough and wanted to be sure of exactly how to put them on. It was a nicer learning experience at 65 degrees, than 10 and snowing :D
I'm happy to say, we worked out a system, I move the truck, hubby moves the chains :p

My chain up tool was made in Thailand. I drape each chain to each outside tire and the chain-up tool does the rest, I don't even have to bend down. Start to finish is about 6 minutes. She is 5'1" weighs 118 lbs and loves to play in the snow...sure glad I married her.

Well the tool I wish it I had but dont.

Which reminds me there is a Truck here at the TA in East Ontario that has automatic chains and I wish I had them on the Tractor and trailer.

Its on a DR Unite up in the Front. The Individul was super Nice and even demonstated them to me.

I was Impressed.

Whish I had them.

on the Tractor and Trailer.

Of which I was told they do make them for.
