We have a 8 gig share everything plan. Until this happened we have NEVER used more than 4. We had NO problem with our 5 GB plan. NOTHING has changed. It is NOT the phones, we don't do data on them. They say it is the jet pack but again, NO change in habits. I REFUSE to pay for 20 GB when I have never used 5. SOMETHING is messed up. I can't imagine using more that 4 or 5 GB per month.

You can check your actual usage on the Verizon web site, and set up alerts. What does your "My Verizon" say about your actual usage? That would reveal alot.

Are your phones set on "hotspot"? If so, anyone can steal your bandwidth unless you have them passworded.

Same on your jetpack. Do you have it secure or open? Thousands of people will gladly steal your data stream if you let them. It sounds like you have a data thief closeby. Secure it!

ONLY IF YOU HAVE SECURED IT. Otherwise everyone IS using it. Do you know how?

Yes, I do. Verizon confirmed it was secured. Again, this happened quickly. We were in a Petro eating. We got a msg saying we were at 50% for the period. No biggie, the period ended the next day. By the time we finished eating we were OVER for the month. 50% of 30 days allotment in a half hour. We were NOT in the truck and the jet pack was off. Something is wrong.

I would make sure the security settings require a passcode to use the device.. otherwise anyone can use your bandwidth..

Are you using an tracking apps? Like mapquest or any app that knows your location. Once you open them, they stay running in the background until you do the force close with the bottom button. Tap the bottom button twice and along the bottom it will show anything still running in the background. Close all those running apps. If you use mapquest just to check milage between 2 points, then close it even without using the routing. It never stops tracking you until you do a forced close.

Nope, no apps running. The WiFi is off as well. Verizon insists it is the "jetpack" and not the phones.

I agree. If Verizon says its the jetpack, and you have the jetpack secured against use, turn the jetpack off when its not in use, along with the laptop(s) or other devices you have that connect to the jetpack.

As you have a jetpack, you must be using it to connect something to the internet, normally a laptop or two. Shut them all down. You could have a virus in your laptop doing all sorts of unauthorized things if you leave you jetpack and laptop on. Something is wrong here.

Something else might be fishy. Since other people are having the same problem, maybe Verizon has changed the way they're calculating days use. I mean, maybe a change to their benefit. It might be a little soon to conclude that, but it's a possibility.

We have started turning off the "jetpack" when not in use. If we have a virus our antivirus can't find it or did not stop it. We have Avast antivirus.

It is strange. When we looked up our usage on line yesterday, it is totally back to normal. No spikes of usage. The last big spike was on March 11. That day shows 1.88GB usage. Again on that day, it was just EO and similar things. No downloads etc.

We have the automatic upgrades all shut off on the computers. We only do upgrades on motel hook ups.

Turn auto upgrades on. Sounds like you might have been hacked. When the upgrades come out, it tells all the hackers where the holes are in the system, and they immediately write exploits, and start pinging aroung th net looking for open systems. If you're unline and un upgraded you'll get nailed. Usually these hackers take control of your machine in the background. The days of erasing peoples data for fun are long over. Now your machine gets hacked and they use either a keyy logger to steal all your bank account info or a trojan designed to use you computer for denial of service attacks or rerouting kiddy porn downloads.

Definately update your system as soon as updates come out.

Also on your wifi, make sure you have a long password for accessing your network. I use my phone number. Many trucker wifi are completely wide open. So you could be eating chow and the guy next to you is using your wifi for netflix.

My wife and I average around 13gigs a month on our account, with 2 smart phones and a laptop and a ipad. We use sprint.

We are getting a new "jetpack" sent to the house. They believe it MAY be a problem with the device. We turned off the auto update because we had a problem once when an update was auto downloading and we lost the signal while moving.

We update once a week, more often if we are sitting.

Other than than one about 10 day period we normal use between 5-6 GB per month. That is for 2 computers and 2 smart phones. I plan on getting rid of the stupid smart phones soon. I find I have little use for them. Just a waste of money for our purposes.
