What is state law on automated tickets?

these automated tickets are just a money thing.you receive no points or anything on your liscense, cause they cant prove who was driving the vehicle. If you have an out of state non cdl liscence,I wouldnt worry about it,they will just turn you over for collection.I was driving my sisters car,got a 40 in a 20,school zone.wasnt during school hours I thought, only to find out,in our area whether the school lites are flashing or not, from 0730 to 1630,speed limit is 20mph.Its been 2 months since I got the ticket, got letter they are turniong over for collection,100 bucks, ill see them on the steps of the court house

I just read on the web site, that this is like a parking ticket. And the way i understand it if paid it does not go on your record. So now do i have to tell my company since it wont count against me?:)

Nightcreacher is right..those tickets are sent to the name that is on the vehicle licence registration...they have no way of knowing who was driving and it is NOT a ticket as if you were to get it from a trooper or police officer..it is a Civil deal...my wife has one at home in her name for my daughter driving her car and it is for 35 in a 25....its about a yr old....it ain't gettin paid..

There are lawsuits all over the country challenging these and the red light tickets from the camaras also....they are just a cash grab....

Cedar Rapids , Ia. is raking in the cash over those automated cameras catching speeders. I was riding in my sisters suv with her husband driving coming back from a funeral 2 months ago and 2 weeks later SHE gets a ticket in the mail for speeding . LOL kind of hard 4 her to do SITTING in the back seat. Lawyer told her to pay it since her record is clean. IT WOULD COST HER MORE in GAS and LEGAL fees to fight it. The way the ecomony is with CITYS needing money this is a cash cow for them. OH YEAH there used to be a spray you could buy off ebay that when put on your license plates it would produce a GLARE to camera flashes and make your plate unreadable by camera.

 Scratching my head here? Ok, you were driving your sisters car when you got a ticket for 40 in 20 school zone. I am assuming (since this post is on automated tickets) that the ticket was mailed to you in the mail? My question is how did they know YOU where driving your SISTERS car? Did she get the ticket or you? If she got the ticket all she has to do is go to court and say "one of my brothers borrowed my car, I dont remember which brother it was, or I frequently lend my car to friends and family members". When you go to court on an automated ticket they generally have a picture of the driver, it is usually a pretty grainy black and white drive-by quicky flash picture that is hard to make out, but would show the driver to be a man (assuming your sister doesn't look like a man, lol :D) and not a woman. The ticket would have to be dismissed. Case closed lol :D

In Ontario with red light cameras...LAW is.....the owner of the vehicle is responsible for the ticket....so you had to be real careful who ya loaned it to....not only the driver went thru the red light so did the car...

Yea the last time I looked, Canada was not the United States and the ticketing process was a bit different.

Overall my solution is not to drive in Cedar Rapids or if I have to, not to speed which I don't speed anyway.

I am just saying how lax/meaningless the Cedar R. law is...it has no teeth...

It is the same way here..the ticket is sent to the registered owner of the car...they have no way of knowing who is driving..thats why the tickets are civil and not traffic law and carry no points....because they can't "ticket" the "Driver"...

Its nothing more then a B/S cash grab....

Ontario got rid of Photo Radar on the highways which is Provincial...but that was more to score an re-election win...not because it was the right thing to do....same will/ might happen here too.....there still are red light cameras within CITY boundaries....different jurisdiction...

$75.00 ?

Pay the darn thing, get it cleared. When it gets close to time for you submit your yearly record of violations, go to the BMV, see if it is listed. If not, forget about notifying the carrier of anything.

For $75.00, I would not put myself through the hassle.

Oh, and slow down!

why were you at 68 in a 55 zone?

accept responsibility for your action and pay the fine.

Because some anonymous camera says he was? When was it last calibrated? Was he shown any proof of this other than a ticket in the mail?
You don't see a problem with this?

I just love these people get on here and cry because they get caught by a cop or a camera for speeding or running red lights then they act like the speed or red light laws should not be enforced and they plan on not paying the fine. All traffic laws should be ENFORCED with actual cops or more cameras. If you say dont enforce the traffic laws then lets not enforce any laws and open the jails/prisons and turn everyone loose murders, rapists, robbers, drunks, etc Either enforce all laws or none of them and lets see whats the old saying if you cant do the time or fine dont break the law
